Will my engine adapt if my idle speed is high?
I have a 2012 Scrambler. Is it true the ECU adaptation cycle (idling the cold engine for 15-20 minutes) will not work if the idle speed is too high? If so, what is the upper idle speed at which the adaptation procedure stops working? Thanks!

Not heard about that, however the adaption procedure won't work if the O2 sensors have been removed as yours seems to have, judging by your signature. What will work by idling for 10-15 minutes is the TPS reset so it's still worth doing after any work or re-mapping.

OK, I did not think that sounded correct. I read it here in post #9.
http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-tech...dle-speed.html
I am going to start a new thread because I have narrowed down my problem (which was popping on decel).
Here is the new thread:

THANKS!

I don't know about your Scrambler, but what you are asking is definitely true on a 2009 EFI T100. I found this out the hard way, and verified by Mickey Cohen who maintains and manages Triumph USA's press fleet. I forget the idle speed required to adapt and learn, but it's pretty low.

If the speed is such that the map is in a zone where the fuelling is not in closed loop mode (which is quite low on the Arrows 2:2 on my bike) then it won't adapt, there may also be a limit built into the map which disables the procedure, when I took mine to the dealers for the 'urban tune' they mentioned the idle issue.
Another way to look at it is if you are in spec' it can't be wrong.

I do have the O2 removed. However, I thought it could still adapt using the air temp and pressure sensors. At any rate, my idle speed is not above 1100 so it should be okay.

It will adapt as it goes on from day to day according to ambient temperatures and altitudes, what doesn't work is the adaption procedure. This was pointed out to me on the adaption thread way back in 2010. See post 11 from DEcosse on this thread:
http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-tech...procedure.html
And further discussed here:
