New Bike Horror Stories

I would be gratefull if anyone who has had any problems with their new Triumph Twins post delivery would be willing to share their experiences here?

My new Thruxton (1 month old) has had to have major gearbox work, and now, 2 days after getting her back, has developed what appears to be a broken wire in the loom.

I am mildly miffed, to say the least.

It will all be covered by the warranty, but its the bloomin' inconvenience of the whole process of getting the bike and keys back to the dealer, and getting it back home again!

Sorry to hear you are having so much aggro ! For the most part, even post Thai, they are rather stout bikes that have few problems.

not one iota of a problem since I bought mine off the show room floor late 2007 and 70k later one happy little camper

being a gear head and due to the wealth of info on this forum do all servicing and work myself as I wonder if some problems are dealer induced

My bike started to idle weird after about 800 miles and found out my throttle bodies got out of whack. The dealer tried to fix it and said it was "within spec" but not in sync. That pissed me off. 80 dollar ebay part and some intimate time with my new bike and it's ok now. I'll never deal with that dealer again. Still love Triumph though.

Slightly used throttle body assembly.

took mine to the dealer for the 500 mile service... shortly after that it would stall at red lights... tweaked the revs a bit and made an appointment with the dealer to check it out... the throttle bodies weren't in sync... took em about an hour to fix it.. no charge.. all under warranty... it rides great now...

Personally I think these things have a lot more to do with dealers than the bike itself. The broken wire may well be down to something the dealer did the last time they had the bike. That's if the fault really IS a broken wire. I know this sort of thing happens a lot.

Generally speaking, these bikes are bullet proof and give very little trouble if at all. Of course, like anything else they are not perfect and you will always get the odd bike with a fault from new, but I've heard some real horror stories concerning the things dealers do when they have the bike in for fixing. One fault leads to another, then another and so on and the bike always gets the blame.

I guess I'm lucky, my dealer (Staffordshire Triumph) are really good. Twice I've fallen foul of the low battery voltage 'no start' condition when I've taken it for service, and I've rang them and they have sent out the van to pick both me and the bike up.

Mine keeps running out of gas. I ride it and ride it and ride it and then the tank is empty. Someone at Triumph should really look into that.
