Speedometer Reinstall

The previous Owner of my 2007 Bonneville, removed the speedometer, he of course provided it when he sold it to me, I was wondering if anyone could help out with how to successfully reinstall it. I mainly have worked on vespas and have owned a couple, this is a little different as I am not as familiar. Is this something that is easily done or should I just take it to a certified triumph mechanic and pay to have it done.

It seems easy enough, seems to be mounted with 4 mounting screws and has a white cluster cable, what else should I be aware of if anything... Any help and or pictures would be of great help!

Did the previous owner also provide the mounting hardware? The job is mostly trivial either way. You will need four stainless hex cap screws, the thread of which eludes me at the moment. The speedo cable just screws on, and I'm assuming you have that. The lighting connector goes into the headlamp bucket, the lens of which comes off with two screws and is a rat's nest inside.

You didn't mention tach, and I don't have one, so can't help you on that one.

Take a look here:

And here:

This should give you an idea of what you have vs. what you're missing.

The instructions for the tachometer add-on kit might help:

so..

I got it remounted today, the idiot lights and backlight work, i assume that the cable that screws directly into the back is what makes the speedo tell you your speed? What does the cable look like, and where does the other end screw into? So close yet so far... He gave me what he said was everything in a box he took off to make it a bit more cafe looking...

Mechanical speedometer. The cable is a sheath with a wire inside, looks on the outside like the other cables. If you don't have one, order it. Order the screw for the bottom end also, if you don't have it.

Route the sheath through the wire clip on the left fork where the brake line should already be.

The bottom end of the cable attaches to the wheel hub with the flathead screw--don't overtighten it. You have to engage the cable properly to the hub; if you look at it carefully, you should see how it engages.

You can remove the cable from the sheath at the bottom if that makes anything easier. Wipe it clean once a year and put a thin film of light grease on it.
