Hello all

Ive had my 2001 Bonnie for a while now, but recently my MOT guy realised my headlight is not uk spec as it shines the wrong way. I'm miffed now why my Bonnie has/had a non uk spec headlight. Could I tell by the frame number if it,s from outside the uk market ?

Ive had to buy a headlamp from Germany. yes it's uk spec but ive had to drill a new screw hole in the headlight shell to line the lamp up otherwise the reflective lines on the back of the lamp vere to the right.

curious if any one else has had headlight issue's . Ive put a blue 100watt bulb in. Bright as ! though ive really struggled to get the parking bulb in as it just drop's out of it's holder when i try to fit !

I'm questioning the wisdom of fitting a 100w bulb. It will melt the wiring and they're illegal in the UK.

I was thinking that. The bulbholder won't like it either. The contacts will lose their temper, create some resistance which will lead to it getting hotter, etc, etc.

Once had a guy came into the garage asking me to replace a blown headlight bulb. Turned out it wasn't the bulb that had blown, the last 12 inches of wiring and connectors were toasted after he fitted 100w ones the previous week.

right ? well the bulb's been working fine with no damge to wiring etc. thanks for your feedback.

It will for a while... until the heat gradually melts the wiring insulation and pops the fuse.
Legally - 100w+ bulbs are for off road use only.

yep ! unless i upgrade the wiring it's a risk running a high wattage bulb. Ive replaced the bulb and modified my non uk spec headlight shell. All good

Just my 2 cents worth here. Your headlight runs from 12 to approx 13.5vdc with a current draw of 5.4 to 4.8 amps respectfully
for the 65 watt high beam.

For a 100 watt bulb for the same voltage will draw 8.3 to 7.4 amps. This is quite a jump and you will have to change more than the wire. I would use a relay to control the headlight with heavier wire going directly to the battery with a ceramic H4 connector. I will not comment on want is legal in the UK but I am pretty sure in Canada that it is not.
