Hi everyone,

I am riding a new T100 (McQ) and while warming it up yesterday the engine shut off and the red oil pressure light came on.

Should I be worried?

If the engine stalled before the oil light came on then I would say don't worry. No run, no oil pump, no pressure, light comes on. As to why it stalled, dunno, can happen on warm up. Depends on your technique.

Agreed. If the light came on after the engine turned off all is normal. Check level and try again and use the "choke" for longer so it doesn't stall. If it came on before it stalled I would look have it looked at for something more serious.

See your handbook concerning starting procedures, there are one or two subtleties peculiar to these bikes:


• If the engine is cold, pull out the choke, noting the following: Above 25°C air temperature, pull out the choke to the first position. Below 25°C air temperature, pull out the
choke fully.

• If the engine is partly warm, pull out the choke to the first position.

• Leaving the throttle completely closed, push the starter button until the engine starts.

Note also the wierd affect washing the bike can have. The rubber boot that covers the oil pressure switch usually traps water which then can cause a short that activates the light, even though normal oil pressure is present. Solution pull the boot back use some DWF and wipe off, then the switch should operate properly. That is a common enough issue with the oil pressure light.

If the motor cut out while idling then the light should come on, as discussed in the other posts. If the light came on before the motor stalled then maybe the issue above, or something else. Take care here. It is rare that something catastrophic might be happening but it can happen.

Thanks for the help. To clarify, I gave a bit of throttle and the engine shut off, then the light came on. The light was not on while the engine was running. I'm guessing that's normal and nothing to worry about from you all.

In four years l've never used the "choke". Riding daily all year round.
Should l be worried?

Yes, the oil light should be on when the engine's not running because there's no oil pressure.

If it comes on when the engine's running, you either have a malfunctioning sensor or a big problem, and should shut down the engine immediately.
