Do your parking lights come on with key-switch in 'ON' position?
Do they come on in 'Park'?
Is your instrument back-light on with Ignition 'On'?

If they do not come on in any circumstances, check Fuse 8
If you do not have park lights but Fuse 8 is good, (or they come on in 'Par'k but not 'On')you need to check ignition switch for broken contact

If park/instrument back-lights are on, check for 12V at the Red/Blue connector to the LED connector.

Been looking at the circuit diagram but can't make anything of it. All the wiring to the instruments is shown as piling into a square box numbered "1", no details of where the wires go.

This is a link to it in case anyone else is willing to have a go:

The chances of both LEDs failing at the same time is remote. So is the possibility of the connections to the ECU failing at the same time. I guess it has to be whatever common connection the two LEDs have, like a an earth or ground connection within the instruments, I think they're coloured black. Check them all for soundness, both behind the instruments and in the connector within the headlight shell, initially you could turn on the ignition and waggle things about while observing the LEDs, any flickering points out a bad connection.

Pin 9 on the cluster appears to be the wire controlling the MIL and low fuel. It's most likely multiplexed so you can check the integrity of the wire itself (red wire) but not much else.
Would also recommend you scan for codes. This might be your best bet to finding the reason why.

.
The LEDs are not part of module 1, the instruments - LEDs are module 57

Oh yes, thanks. Never noticed that, I was expecting the diagram to place such things more or less close to their final position.
