Rotella Synthetic T6 oil

I've read the threads out there praising the shell rotella synthetic oil, so I went to pep boys to get a gallon of it for my 2007 thruxton. However, I'm not sure if what I bought will work. It's called Rotella T6 Full Synthetic 5w-40. It looks like it's build for 18 wheelers or something. I did put it in my bike, but I only have a 1 mile on the engine with this oil in it. Since I know nothing about oil specs, I was hoping someone out there could tell me if this will be good for my engine, or if I've made a terrible mistake.

Rotella T6 oil carries the JASO - MA rating so it will be fine. I intend to use it for my next oil change.

Rotella is a diesel oil, and yes, it does have the JASO MA rating. If it were a Hardley, it would probably be just fine--similar rpm's with the big diesel rigs. I wouldn't even consider this oil because of the rpm's I run my bike, and because of the viscosity rating. The manufacturer specs the oil viscosities that are acceptable as 15W50, and 10W40. The Rotella you mention meets neither spec.

I just put a gallon of Rotella 15W40 (non synthetic) in my diesel farm tractor today. It is a very good oil for what it is designed for, IMHO.

nothing good can come of this...













I'm using the same stuff. As I understand things, since I will not be firing it up at sub-freezing temps, it will flow as higher than 5 weight on start-up. Once it's warm, it's a 40 weight. If your worried, be very polite during warm-up. Or add BBQ drippings to thicken it.

well, oil threads are only worthwhile during the first page.... the other 99 pages are basically variations on a theme... "less filling!... tastes great!"

I've used it for a long time in various motorcycles (not the T6, the earlier version).

improves shifts over some other brands, but not as good as others. Not as cost effective as it used to be - walmart around here has gone up on the price, and the local auto parts stores are edging closer to $30 a gallon for the stuff...

The 15-40 non synthetic was too thick for the tiger, but worked ok in a few hondas (shifting was a bit rough with oil that thick)... even in the hot summer here.
