Hi,

I have a 2009 T100 Bonneville. Tried to carry a passenger tonight and the engine would cut out. Error code was P1698 - Sensor supply Vcc Malfunction. Bike seems to run ok without passenger. Any ideas?

P1698 is a code for "Voltage control circuit malfunction". Sounds like a problem with the rectifier/regulator. If you have a multimeter measure the voltage at the battery with the engine running at a fast idle. Should be over 13 volts but no more than 14.8 or so.

I can't see what difference having a passenger makes, but can could happen is that the ECM supply relay could be slipping out of its socket. This is the small (1"x1") black box under the seat, between the barometric sensor and the tip-over cut-out switch. Its mounted on a floppy rubber mounting and might have slipped off it.

Hi JC,

I got the same problem with my Bonneville P1698, by reading your post I realized that anytime I got the problem my girlfriend was on the bike.

Could you tell me how did you identify the pinched wire I checked and I could not find anything, so I have taped everything but the light is still on.

Thanks in advance

I have the same problem , but everything was fine until one time while I was riding I swich on and off lights ( short and long distance light ) and bike turned off, then I could not turn it ON again, later I connected it to OBDII cable and see this alarm ( 1698 ) , rectifier is showing good resistance, crankshaft position sensor is also good ( resistance 615 Ohms at 20C ), but only thing that is confusing me is that while the bike is running , battery is showing 12.5 V, when I add throttle and leave it on 3500- 4000 rpm it still stays at 12.6 Volts, not going up or down:|
Anyways, if you have any ideas what else to check for this stupid alarm, thank you ... ( maybe it has something to do with this swiching headlight long and short beam ,like giving a signal to another bike or a car, I don't know what is a word for this one, sry )

Thank you guys very much, currently I have 2 problems to check
Without any reason , while checking rectifier if its good or bad ( i disconnect it from the stator plug, and check by multimeter) and realise that it is good, also checked all fuses and they look good, I put back everything back in place try to start it, realise that neutral swich is gone bad, so I have to check that one and the stator.
