Airbox Flooded!!!

Hey all I have a little delima. I pulled my Bonnie out for the first time in about 8 months to start her up. Cranked and cranked with the choke on and finally got a little sputter and very low idle. Wouldnt rev up at all and ran better with the choke off. Never could get it to rev and it died in about 2 mins. Well from all the cranking the battery went dead so I hooked up my battery charger and on the 50amp start mode im pretty sure I burned out my battery.

But then the strange thing happened. I started getting a stream of fuel from the intake on my airbox. Nice yellow fuel might I add.

So now I have a multitide of problems. Bad gas and battery are the two obvious ones. But how does an airbox get about half a gallon of fuel in it???? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Darren

As your battery was well discharged, connecting a 50 amp charger to it probably means the plates have overheated and distorted and are permanently damaged. In its discharged state the battery tries to absorb all the current you care to give it and that charger gave it all.

After 8 months of inactivity the carb needle valves that control the flow of gas into the float chambers were probably stuck. There should be an overflow device on those carbs, though it could be blocked with dirt, and the excess fuel flowed into the airbox.

50 amps?? You must mean 5 amps, anyways, like Forchetto says you probably fried the battery and need a new one. The fuel problem is simple, you have a stuck float needle in a carb. Tap the bowl with the handle of a screwdriver or drop the bowl and clean the needle and run fresh fuel thru it and it should be fine. You will have fuel in your sump and should check the oil level hasn't raised and sniff the oil for gas. Change oil and clean or change air filter.
