efi, Pieman remap
guys,
You may have seen elsewhere, dyno charts of my bike following various modifications, with the Arrow 2/1 map. I wasn't happy with the shape of the a/f chart, but what to do about it? I considered three options, accept it as it was, fit a pclll, or get a tuneboy. There was a fourth option though, Pieman offered to upload a remap to my ecm, based on what I'd done to my bike and what testing he'd done with tuneboy mapping. This meant buying the unlock code for my ecm from tuneboy which was about £120. I posted it Monday, got it back on Friday.
After a few runs, going through three heat cycles, the performance was better in a number of ways from the Arrow map. The tractability had improved so I could trundle along in top at 1750rpm or so, about 30mph on the 18t sprocket, then pull cleanly uphill from that. There was a general improvement in low down torque and the crispness in the way the motor picked up. The top end was considerably improved, I got over 100mph in 4th with the tach as far as it would go into the red (8,000rpm) the bike was a great deal quicker to ride.
I thought if that's as good as it gets, I'd be happy with that improvement, for those gains alone I'd recommend having the Pieman remap. The a/f chart is still a bit lumpy, going from 14 at 2,500rpm down to 12 at 4,000rpm which corresponds with a dip in the power and torque, so I think it can be improved a bit yet. That being the only downside to doing things this way, I'll need to send the ecm off again for any further map changes. Anyhow, consider it a work in progress and here's the results so far:
chart shows an increase in torque and power at the bottom and top, although not a huge amount on paper the bike is much better to ride, more tractable and also faster.

brief video of the dyno run. Willie hadn't realised the rev limiter had been raised to 8,500rpm, thought he was going to blow her up! so got off the bike to check what was going on, you can hear it hit the limiter at the end (4th gear roll on)

Good improvement on the top end, but I wrongly assumed your double entry airbox would flow more air in the mid range than the single entry airbox and Venturi cover this tune was based on. We'll get that next time round and improve the mid range.

Nice one Johny! Once again the pioneer!!
I know what you mean about results not transferring well to paper.
But your description paints a picture of good improvement.
Pieman just needs to wave that wand once more and it'll be sorted.
He's the man!!
Great vid of the dyno BTW.
Nice set-up Willie has there.

"Pieman just needs to wave that wand"
That is the truth, I just got mine back for a 05 T-100 and what a different animal. Again I just want to say thank you to Pieman and TPUSA.

Pieman, I ma after more and broad mid range torque, can I get that from a remaped igniter, not after more top RPM.

Pieman remap, revisited
guys,
If I could get to the end first, My bike now runs the best it ever did, running very cleanly in top from 1500rpm on a 19t sprocket and pulling strongly from there, no coughs, splutters, pops, bangs, wheezes.
I had a second map done, to try and achieve a flatter a/f line, but it caused rough running low down. Partial throttle runs showed that the a/f was going very weak up to about 3,500 which made the bike difficult to ride round town.
I had a third map done, having changed a couple of things on the bike. I put vw Beetle mutes in the feked pipes to mellow the sound a bit more in built up areas, also removed the O2 sensors and Mike disabled that part of the programme. I don't know if they convey how much better my bike feels to ride, but the charts are shown below.
Looking round the dyno' thread, I'm getting near enough the same power as other efi folks (a best of 66, down to 64 with mutes fitted) with no mechanical changes, just intake, exhaust and remap. But I'm getting a bit more mid-range torque it seems, 57 lb/ft, which I can only put down to the 70mm venturis I fitted inside the airbox. Yes, I said airbox.

Pieman Tunes...
My Tuneboy will be arriving here soon, and I hope to consult Pieman for a tune or two for my EFI '09 Bonny.
It seems to me that he has your bike well sorted out. . . .
