Side Stand Clearance

Hello all.

I have just finished modifying the side stand to try and improve clearance when cornering. I found that the tang grounded very easily and being as far forward that it was, it tended to upset the stability of the bike, big time. Also the spring retaining eye would also grind. So off with the stand, cut the tang off, and re weld it to the foot of the stand so that it now nicely wraps around the muffler and also it is much easier to access with your foot to kick it down. The tang is made of quite high quality steel, it takes a bit to cut and to bend. The spring eye was cut off and rewelded on at about 90 degrees to the original fit so that the eye now rests sideways under the bike with the stand up and not pointing down at the ground. The springs were originally fitted the wrong way around but now fitted correctly the whole set up works like a charm. Maximum cornering clearance, and dare I say it BMW style ease of access and use. The modified tang looks a bit naff with the stand down as it sticks up a bit, but frankly not terrifically worse than the original. Something to trip over.

So I am happy with this, now off to a ride day at Phillip Island this weekend to see what else scrapes.

Cheers, Simmo

My side stand also scrapes.

I modified it somewhat, but I still get it touching down on fast left handers. The stand has a little bit of give in it, but the header pipes don't ...

Havva good time @ the Island.
