Checking Oil on Centre Stand...

My SE is my first bike ever with a centre stand, and I have a question that I can pretty much answer with some common sense, but figured I'd throw it out there to you knowledgeable Bonnie guys for a definite answer.

Can you accurately check the oil level in the sight glass with the bike up on the centre stand? The only mental adjustment I can tell one would have to make is to be aware that the oil in the glass will appear slightly pitched, because the rear wheel is off the ground a couple of inches. I don't see any reason why the oil can't accurately be checked, but someone out there may know better.

I think it would be fairly accurate, like you said, you'd need to take the angle into account. Just curious, where did you get your centerstand?

Ordered it from Jack Lilley Triumph over in the UK. With shipping it came to $267 USD... I probably could have gotten it a little cheaper stateside but their customer service is great.

I really do not check my oil level too often because it does not leak or smoke, but if a bike is relatively level - such as resting on a center stand, the level in the window will be accurate.

Center stand is fine

You have to check the oil while the bike is straight up, this is one of the reasons you have a center stand.

I've been doing it that way for five years, no problems.

Note that the oil needs some amount of time to settle after you run it or add oil, before you check the level.

Likewise - I check mine on the centerstand. For kicks I had a looky while holding the bike upright off the stand - damn close to the same level, but harder to do.

So - there you are. Checking oil level on centerstand is fine, just like Marty says.
