Unifilters, which oil

So I cleaned my Unifilters today, but I am unhappy about the goop that I use on them to catch the dirt. It was recommended at the shop. But really, every time I go near the filters, this slimmy stuff gets on everything including me. So what are others using on your filters? It seems to work good, good amount of sandy particles came out when I washed them, and I didn't see any damage to the cylinders when I pulled them.

Thanks

Hoopla

I use K&N red aerosol filter oil, just a light spray on my new UNI pods.

Maybe it's the wrong stuff, but it is designed to be on a filter. I don't use much anyway. The air's clean enough here that I didn't use any oil on my big single UNI when it was down in the airbox. I did put some on the pods now that they are 'less protected'.

BTW my bro runs velocity stacks only (no filters) on his old CB750 cafe racer. Been riding it that way for years. If you live in a windy or dusty area, filters are a big deal though.

I use UFF-100 - Uni-Filter Foam Filter Oil

K&N Oil is different.

I bought my filter from the UK and it came dry and no oil was supplied. Can't get any locally, so after a search I found out that manufacturers that use foam filters as standard just recommend engine oil.

For instance I have the Suzuki DR200SE service manual in front of me and it says: "Immerse the element in motor oil and squeeze the oil out of the element leaving it slightly wet with oil".

I'm sure Suzuki know what they're doing.

Some users prefer a heavy grade so it sticks better and doesn't drip all over the place. I am now using a heavy transmission oil used for shaft drive bevel boxes, 90 weight EP (Extreme Pressure) gear oil.

Uni does not recommend running their filters dry or with motor oil.

That's cause they want you to buy their product.
Any oil will catch dust particles.

Use whatever you want, machts nicht to me.

If you run paper then you don't even need oil...

A uni filter crankcase breather is going to get drenched in engine oil, like it or not...

Any filter will eventually get oiled up by the crankcase breather, and as a crankcase breathes *in* and *out*, it's safer to use the same oil on the filter as you run in the motor.

Ergo ... I use Motul 7100 synthetic on the filter.

I was referring to carbs, not a breather. Whether or not a breather gets "filled" depends in part on routing and location.
