NEWBONNEVILLE harness wiring - Lucas Tail Light
Hi,
Upgraded my Scrambler OEM plastic lights (taiwan?) to Lucas Tail light and bullet marker lights and NewBonneville wiring harness to fit my new black mudguards. Black t100 seat on it's way to follow my project.
My idea is to keep stock parts intact to change to White configuration in a minute.
Now, with the stock wiring everything works but when I change to NB harness the 5 amp fuse always breake , bullet marker lights are ok, stop light is ok but the running light doesn't work. When I turn the ignition on always can see and ear the fuse blowing.
I called the NB people and they said the 9/10 times is an earth issue. They even send me the instructions and I thing everything is wired well.
The earth cable is under the mudguard on the Lucas Tail bolt, I changed all the connections and everything looks good but, 5 amp fuses are amost out of stock .
Is the wiring harness from NB bad done?
Someone witn Lucas Tail and NB Wiring harness can help me with this?
Thanks

I haven't done this, but I have some ideas.
First, is the fuse blowing from a short circuit (very fast and hot), or an overload (slowly melts)?
Does it blow the fuse when there are no light bulbs in the sockets? That would definitely be a short circuit. If not, try with light bulbs and a 7.5 or 10-amp fuse; if it doesn't blow the fuse, then it's an overload and you can just use the larger fuse (assuming the rest of the wiring can handle the load).
Of course, make sure that all wire and connectors are properly insulated and neatly installed, assuming that you've done that already. You could test the NB harness with a multimeter to make sure there are no internal shorts.
If from a short circuit, try exchanging (swapping) the hot and ground wires into the taillight. Try it temporarily with some jumpers to see if it works before cutting, soldering, or making other more permanent changes.
If from overload, it could be that the running lights are drawing additional current, and a next-larger size fuse would fix that.
As an aside, watch the film Fados, if you haven't seen it yet. Beautiful!

I had the same problem a few years ago with the Newbonneville lights on my Scrambler. If you are hooking it up to the running light in the headlight as the instructions say, I believe they tell you to hook it to the wrong wire. I wish I could be completely sure of the details but it happened two years ago. I would look closely at the headlight running light, though, because I remember that being the issue. Hope that helps, and good luck.

I installed the same kit but I did not have this problem. It has pretty much worked great. The only issue i had was that two of the bulbs burned out prematurely, but after i replaced them they have been fine

Lucas Tail Lifght and bullet marker lights
I followed an advice and disconnect all the cables from the bullet marker lights to the harness and start again connecting one by one and guess what? the short circuit was from the bullet lights, now the lucas tail light works fine, but (this will never end??)
the only issue now is one of the rear bullet lights is always on...
NB harness maker saw this thread and is trying to help me...
I will post when eveything works fine.

Tail light and bullet turn lights job finished.
Newbonneville wiring harness maker help me with this. It's the easier thing to do, if we have the right instructions.
OEM Triumph harness have 1 positive cables from the harness to each turn light and no running light option.
Newbonneville harness have 1 positive to both turn lights and 1 for the running light to both turn lights as well (I haven't plug this one since I guess it would spend more power from the battery).
No need to rewiring just plug and play.
if someone want's to buy the wiring from newboneville this is the way to do it:
On the rear LEFT side turn signal
Black/white to earth (black)
RED wire turn signal to Orange wire harness....this is the turn signal
BLACK from turn signal to Red harness...this is running light
On the rear RIGHT side turn signal
Black/white to earth (black)
RED wire turn signal to Brown wire harness....this is the turn signal
BLACK from turn signal to Red harness...this is running light
Fase 1 custom complete:
Lucas and bullet light
Tors
Black fender (front and rear)
t100 seat and fast bolts
next stop newbonneville Scrambler superbars and BC mirrors
for the summer, NARK?
Thank you all for the help
regards
Nuno

You put on something called "Lucas" and then experienced electrical problems... that is sooo strange... I would never have seen that coming yes yes I know it is a Lucas like product.. but come on some one had to make a Prince of Darkness comment. Glad everything worked out for ya.

Another resurrected thread!
I wanted to add that I got the same setup for my T100, and I am very glad I splurged and got the wiring harness included, it went in easy and hooked up perfectly. You just have to make sure which wire goes where, and have a clean ground. It looks awesome.

Very good. I am pleased to hear Brent found the thread and helped you out. Newbonneville have always been very good in my experience.
I have a set of Lucas style lights for mine - hope to install them soon. I'll keep the points raised in this thread in mind.

Well, I was all excited when I saw this post, because I was having troubles as well. My problem is a bit different. I had the signal working no problem, but my tail light only lit up with no Brake light. I have turn signals with 2 wires only, not the 3 wire. The turn signal is the Lucas style. Red and black wires only.
My bike is an '08 Bonneville. I really don't want to ter into the harness I got from New Bonneville, so I thought I would post here first.
