Buzzing Headlight
The headlight on my Thruxton buzzes / rattles above 4,000 rpm. It seems like the rim is slightly loose, but I've already gone in and tightened all the fasteners. I've taken it off a few times to try and resolve it, but admit I haven't taken it completely apart yet. Here's what I've found:
If I knock on the glass, it clicks. If I touch the bottom of the glass and/or rim and knock, it will click, but if I touch the top of the glass / rim and knock it will not. Similarly, while riding, if I put my hand on the top front, the buzzing will go away until I remove my hand.
The rim has a little bit of play between it and the shell, which doesn't seem right, but I'm not the original owner, so I don't know how it came or what's normal. I've looked in the manual and at the parts diagram and don't see any kind of rubber ring or anything, but on bike bandit there's this #21 in the Headlight assembly that I don't understand:
http://www.bikebandit.com/2006-trium...900/o/m1766521
: FOAM SEAL,40 X 8 X 2.5, ROLL
USE WITH T2700703
Any thoughts?

I guess I'm the only one, eh? Well just in case someone searches this topic in the future, a wrap of electrical tape around the shell where it meets the rim was the cure. There doesn't seem to be room for a proper seal, so I think the p.o. Maybe bent it a little or something. I love that the problems I have to worry about with this bike are only as trivial as this.

Hey Octain, odds are you have a screw loose in the bucket. If you have ever replaced the headlight with a sealed lamp, you'll remember the two tiny screws that barely screw in when attaching the lamp to the ring. One can easily work its way out and buzz around laying in the ring. Pull the headlight out and check it.

mine did this, back when I had a stock headlight. My fix, although not glamorous, worked well. I took 1" of clear scotch tape and taped the ring to the bucket on the bottom (6 o'clock) side. You couldn't see it and it stopped the buzz.

There are no loose screws. I had it open a number of times trying to resolve it before I decided on the tape. The buzzing was because the contact between the bucket and the ring was not tight enough. To clarify, the electrical tape is under the ring and it goes all the way around, kind of like a gasket. You cannot see it unless you remove the ring.

If memory serves, there is a spring that sits in between the angle adjustment screw and the ring. If that were missing, loose, or broken, I imagine the headlight would demonstrate the characteristics your referring to....
Its easy to lose the spring, when you take the rim off it goes flying if you aren't paying attention...

The alignment screw spring is still in place. The buzzing was emanating from the top edge. The tape may not be the proper fix, but it works, and it has the added benefit of creating a seal to keep water out, so as far as I'm concerned, problem solved. Thanks for your replies though.

Ya know what? That might be the sound that I'm hearing also! I thought that it might have been the speedo cable, but now I'm going to tape the ring and give that a go...it's kinda like a buzzing, whirling sound...

Before you tape it, try just putting your hand on the glass when you hear the sound. If it goes away with your hand on it, that's your problem, if not, it's something else. I wouldn't have called mine a whirling sound, but you never know.
