Mostly pointless igniter question.

Does terminal 14 on a 360 igniter output anything? (Terminal 14 is the trigger for the second coil on a 270 igniter.) I've been wondering for a while and haven't been able to dig it up on my own or put my hands on both a scope and a running 360 bike at the same time. The 360 and 270 igniters carry different part numbers, etc., and there's no reason a 360 motor should have anything on that terminal, but I'm looking for a definitive answer from someone who's actually checked. (... or if you're the type who programs the things and can say for sure, that works too.)

FWIW, this serves no practical purpose for me. It'll just be an answer to a question I couldn't answer on my own.

Thanks.

My Thruxton shop manual diagram shows no connection to pin 14. Like you said, pin 14 does fire one of the coils on a 270.

Cheers,
BLIGHT

The shop manual was the first thing I checked, and it (predictably) shows no connection on pin 14, but I'm looking for someone who's actually checked a functioning unit on a bike or who's hooked one up to a computer and poked around inside.

Thanks though.

Our Pieman does a lot of poking and hooking on those units. He'll turn up any minute.

I haven't tried a 360° igniter on a 270° engine, but I have tried a 270° igniter on a 360° engine with no joy even when I moved the pins on the plug. Although the maps and rev limiter are changeable on all units, Triumph use different firmware on 360° and 270° units which I believe enable and disable certain pins.

There is igniter data and pinouts on this page: http://www.triumphtwinpower.com/triu...niter-info.php
