Bummed out Engine Block damaged beyond repair.

Hi everyone,

I just got the news from my mechanic that the engine block or case has been damaged on my 2001 bonneville. he told me that the whole engine needs to be replaced it can't be welded or fixed. He suggested that i go on ebay to look for a used engine and that with labor and parts a new engine could be pricey. He's been a very honest mechanic so far so I don't doubt him. he asked me to come by the shop today to have a look for myself. I'm kind of bummed out with this. I bought the bike back in 2007 with only 4000 miles the bike now has 24,000 miles. I've always took care of this bike and had it checked out frequently. I will post some pictures and give you a better explanation of what went on when I see him but for now what are your thoughts on this? Assuming the engine is damaged what do you think I should do?

Man that sucks, I'm sorry to hear that.

First of all, find out specifically what the damage is - don't make any decisions until you know that.

Depending on what it is, a used engine is likely a good way to go, and build up one good one. Then sell the remaining spares to recoup some of the cost.

But lets see the damage first - there might be other options.

Sorry man - I hate to hear that.

I mean, make one good engine from your one, and a used one, and then sell the leftover parts. I mean you might find a part engine for example, that has what you need to repair yours.

here you go http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Trium...item56334a17a2 that block will work on yours you will have to use your crank in it though and jugs pistons and so on some gaskets and seals and bearings and you can ride again. leave the pistons in the bores and you wont need to screw with the rings

Check out Pin wall cycle parts. I think they had an engine. I just bought a used seat from them on ebay

"Many parts will fit multiple years and models, but please check to be sure." Did you ever buy anything from this seller? shekmark can you provide me with the link to the T100 part needed?

Damn it's the dreaded starter motor failure.

Yes your bike can be saved, but you need that ebay engine block, or at least a new pair of crankcases.

The motor can be rebuilt, it's a question of your mechanic figuring out how long it would take to rebuild, and the cost of that if doing it yourself is not your thing.

Another option is get a complete used engine and put it in there. Might be cheaper.
