Whats the differance between the 270' and 360' engine.

With the 360' engine both pistons fire at the same time correct? And the 270' one pistons fires and then the other one fires at 270' then the other at 90' and so on, correct?. Also what is the differance in the HP, torque and response. Also why scrambler has the 270' and not the 360'.
Lots of questions...thanks.

This was discussed at length recently on this thread:

http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-talk...60-engine.html

By the way, in the 360 degree engine the pistons do go up and down together but they fire alternatively. One fires and the other does it one revolution later (360º)

they both fire at the same time, but only one cylinder is on compression.

Firing only occurs on a compression stroke.

Bit of confusion in 'ere... I believe the OP meant "fire" as in the power stroke.

The plugs themselves do indeed "fire" or spark at the same time. It's a double ended coil working on the lost spark principle, so the ignition produces a spark on the power stroke of one cylinder and on the exhaust stroke of the other cylinder at the same time.

My apologies TT, and thanks for the correction Forchetto. There I go making assumptions again, I should know better by now. I assumed that there were 2 coils as I have in my Norton. I should have assumed that there has been a fair degree of improvement since then.....

This is true for the 360* motor, but the 270* must have split ignition, right?

You're right of course. Keep forgetting about that 270º engine. The Bonneville and Thruxton use a single double-ended coil and the Scrambler uses two single-ended coils.
