Vacuum Actuated Petcock
Has anyone tried installing a vacuum actuated petcock for their Bonneville? I have a new Bonne 2006 T100 and there are some stand alone vacuum petcocks that can be mounted in-line (i.e., not to the tank). Just wondering where would the vacuum line go? To one of the nipples on the carb from a removed AI? Thanks.

If you really wanted to do that, I think you could indeed use any of the blanked off vacuum nipples on the carburettor inlet manifolds.
Are you thinking of doing this?

I think that would work. I contacted Pingel re this a few years ago, but didn't follow thru. They make a manual petcock that fits our bikes, so I guess the question to ask them is ... 'do you have a vacuum petcock equivalent ?'
Also, my W650 Kaw came with two CVK carbs and a vacuum petcock. As I recall, Kaw had taken a short hose from each carb vacuum takeoff, ran them into a plastic "T" junction, then connected a single hose between the "T" and the vacuum petcock.
EDIT 1 - sorry, I didn't read the part of your post that said you were going to use in-line devices.

Not trying to be difficult. What problem is being solved with a vacuum petcock vs. the stock one?

A couple of things. My OEM petcock is a bit sticky, but I think some threads here point to a cure. I'd also like to avoid having to turn it off each time I park for any extended period. Just lazy (and sometimes forgetful).
Secondly, I have an extra in-line vacuum activated petcock that I thought I needed for my son's scooter, but I ended up fixing it instead. So, I was just thinking if I could use it on the Bonne?
I plugged one carb nipple on the Bonne when removing the AI. Wondering if that might be an appropriate vacuum source for the petcock? Thanks.

I haven't turned mine off for months (I'm not proud of this.) Haven't experienced any ill effects (not a recommendation). Probably the best way to discover if I have a stuck float....

You might have problems with the reserve setting. Most of my later year Yamaha's had vacuum petcocks, and no reserve, which where ok until you tried to remove the gas tanks, then they where a pita.
Like was said I never turn mine off, I only turn it when I have to go to reserve.

That's a good point. My Kaw W650 had 3 positions - normal/reserve/prime. Prime would allow gas to pass thru the petcock whether the engine was running or not, and could be used to drain fuel from the tank if required. Normal purpose was to allow the floats to fill in the event the bike had been run dry, and there wasn't enough gas in the tank to start the engine, and create enough vacuum to open the petcock. If you're shopping for one, make sure it has all three positions.

Then consider yourself quite lucky. A stuck float will get fuel everywhere, including in the airbox and even in the crankcase. It's a huge PITA, and one of those mistakes you won't make again.
