Another Oil Thread

Sorry if this is the wrong thread but a search for oil brought me here. I am getting ready to change the oil in my SE for the first time. After spending time on "Bob's the Oil Guy" I came away with the info that the Triumph branded oil is Euro spec 15W-50 Mobil One 4T. It is also wildly expensive. The local Wally World carries Mobil One 10W-40 4T and 20W-50 V-Twin for $9.50 a quart. If I use Mobil I am leaning toward the 20W-50. Does anyone have any experience using it in a Bonneville? The other option is 15w-40 Rotella T I use in all my other vehicles. People on that forum seem really enthused about the use of Rotella in their bikes. It is also $16.00 a gallon at the local Tractor Supply. I wonder since the 20W-50 is touted as a V-twin oil (read Harley) is it okay to use it in our wet clutch Triumphs. In the 70's I just used 20W-50 Castrol GTX in my bikes, my MGB and my 390 GT Torino. But I understand today's car oils have additives that are not compatible with the wet clutch. All opinions welcome as well as direction to the proper thread if needed.

Oh where fore art thou, Moderator!

Any non-energy conserving oil & filter combo of reasonable viscosity will protect just fine, really. Beyond that you will start yet another oil war. With plenty of opinions. And it won't be pretty.

Literally, search, & ye shall find...

TriumphRAT threads on oil - lots of discussion, some of the threads have external links that are of interest. Hopefully this makes the discussion easy to find - not that it isn't fun discussing oil all over again!

Dang, that was pretty awesome. Guess I don't feel too awful bad getting Castrol V-Twin at $3.99 a quart...
