Thumbs down Clearance Problems ...

I ride my Bonny pretty hard, and lately I have been having problems with ground clearance on the left side in left hand corners.
I've found that the side stand is scraping on the road, not just the foot part, but the whole length of the stand and the mounting ...

Now I don't want to throw her up the road and scratch her up, so i've had to adjust the rear shocks up a notch on the spring pre-load position in an effort to keep from scraping the stand, but running the shock like this makes me get bounced off the seat on some bumps.

The obvious solution is to back off a bit in the corners, but when you are racing through the twisties with your mates, backing off is the last thing you want to do...

I don't think I can do without the side stand on the bike, as the new Bonny doesn't come with a center stand. Anyone else have this same problem with ground clearance, and if so, what did you do about it?

Thanks,

S.

you could try Thruxton/scrambler length shocks (longer) and some Thruxton preload adjustable fork caps to get a bit more height. A wider rear tyre may also help. My thruxton has touched down on the very odd occasion when I actualy found a bend, but thats pretty rare.

Hmmm...yes, that's a real possibility. Longer [Thruxton] shocks and some pre-load on the fork could help.

Thanks for the ideas, i'll look into that.

Plus longer shocks will raise your center of gravity enough so that when you try the same corner at the same speed again you will go down hard. Let us know. Have the nurses call us.

Hello Spooky,
I can vouch for the longer shocks, I installed Thruxton length Ikons on my 07 Bonnie and Ikon springs in the forks with a 25mm spacer for preload.
I enjoy a twisty road too, and this set up works a treat, I think I've only scraped the pegs a couple of times.

All the best
Pete

Thanks Revsmail, that's good to hear.

That's probably the way i'll go, I think.

Does the adjuster on the Thruxton fork interfere with the Intiminators?

Anyone know? As far as I can see, it shouldn't.

Many have put on longer shocks with no ill effects, so I call BS on this one. Guess I'll find out for myself, 360mm öhlins goin on for next season.

Then get some aftermarket shocks that actuall absorbs the bumps instead of transmitting the energy into the chassis.

+1 , the stockers on my bonne could use a position between 3 and 4 for perfect damping 1 up. But the Hagons on order will be sooo much better.

I'm already running Ikons on the back, which are fine. The stock shocks were woeful, and the first thing I changed on the bike.

I'm going to try the Thruxton length Ikons with the Thruxton top adjusters on my fork and see if that does the trick.
