Stock shock length

Does anyone know the length of the rear stock shock for an 08' Bonnie. I measured from bolt - bolt and got 13" but a couple of aftermarket shock companies told me the stock shock length for my Bonnie is 13.25" or 13.50".

Thanks

13.5" open (with a 4.0" stroke) measured eye-to-eye.

Stock thruxton length is 14.3" = 363mm
Stock bonneville length is 13.5" = 343mm [20mm drop]

Did you remove the shock from the bike to measure it?, or at least raise the bike so the swing arm drops to its full travel?.

I ask because that 13" (330 mm) is the length for the 09 lowered Bonnies and the shocks for the previous model like yours should be about 12.38" or 340 mm.

That's odd, I dont get anywhere near 13.5" when I measure from middle of bolt to middle of bolt. Am I doing this correctly?

On the sidestand the shock will be compressed a little. Remove one of them from the bike (right side is easier) or jack up the bike so that the rear wheel is clear of the ground.

Ah, that makes sense. I'll take the right one off and measure it. Thanks much.

Wouldn't jacking the rear wheel up stretch the shock slightly (wheel weight)? Mebbe not a huge amount but then mebbe I don't know how rear shocks are measured - equally plausible.

Shocks are measured at full stretch. This is obtained by either raising the rear wheel off the ground or removing the shock to allow the spring to extend fully.
