2009 EFI America
Greeting All,
Am very new to this forum and Triumphs so to say that I have gained much from reading all that has been written is an understatement. My America is only 4 mths old with 3000k's. I have just modified the air box to duel intake, also added a K&N filter and she already had staintune exhaust from new. She now has more go from downlow to midrange. The very top end is not so good now. It has the richist map that I am able to get at my local dealer. Plan to dyno her soon to find out what is going on and where. Waiting for the AI removal kit to come, then that will be gone to.
Future mods, move foot controls forward 3" and when available fit a belt drive conversion. Then maybe low profile seat.
This bike is so much fun to ride, love it.
Ride free and safely,
John

welcome
Hi,
Welcome. Very nice.
Staintunes eh? Any chance of a video?
I'd love to hear what their pipes sound like on an America.

It was a challenge to hold the phone and reach the thottle.
The bike ran smoother with the airbox done and K&N filter. Now the AI is removed and it is even smoother and with next to no backfiring. It is such a joy to ride now. Thank you to the pioneers of doing these mods to the EFI bikes. I so appreciate your efforts. I am able to do the work however I do not have the experience and knowhow to know what to change.
Cheers,
John

America EFI's
You sure are going to town with mods on that Twin, Mate. As you are finding out, the EFI engines respond differently to the usual carb mods, and not always in a good way. They require different insights and skills than the older style engines, and those old school mods usually degrade performance on the fuelies. Also, finding dealers that actually understand or care about effective modifications to the new engine control systems is difficult to impossible. So we learn from each other's mistakes and successes. Your best bet now is Tuneboy, and you may want to get to know this technology by heading over to the Sport and Touring forum here, to the Tuneboy section, a good starting place with some great content from fuelies worldwide and knowledgeable countrymen of yours.
Many of us have found the 'sweet spot' that makes our twins come alive, and more answers are found in the computer keyboard than in the metric toolbox. Hold on to all the parts you have removed - you may find yourself bolting them back on, for reasons ranging from performance enhancement to emissions testing compliance. Lots of 'performance' tricks out there are simply voodoo. Plus, you have to decide if you are willing to spend big dollars chasing 15 horsepower located so high up in the powerband as to be almost useless, or do you want usable torque down home, where you actually ride.
Take your time, ride often, read up, and don't be too quick to hack and chop. Get to know your America and discover your riding style, then match them up. There are several true experts on this site - lurk a bit and get to know who they are. We now return you to your regular program.....

Hey thundershortz,
Thanks for the insights.
I will read up about the Tuneboy. In this moment the bike is running great with a more low and midrange power, just where I like it. It is also very much smoother to ride. Am not planing to do any more mods to the engine than what I have now done.
Ride safe,
John
