replacing stock 2008 thruxton clutch lever with same

This is my first bike with a cable clutch and my lever snapped off (don't ask) and I searched the threads but couldn't come up with any answers that fit (and I don't have a shop manual cause I don't have a shop). When the new lever arrives I obviously can figure out how to take the remainder of the bar screwed to the handlebar out and try to not to lose any of those little springs. My questions is, do I need to loosen the screws that are attached to the clutch cover to get enough free play in the cable to remove what's lever of the lever? If this is the case, does just tightening the same screws by the clutch cover re-tighten the cable or is there some little trick here to make sure I get the free play in the right range. Thanks.

you dont have to loosen/remove the bolts on the clutch cover. if you have to remove the cable you just need to loosen the two nuts that tighten the clutch cable onto the piece that bolts onto the clutch cover (if that makes any sense). no messing with clutch cover bolts required.

Yes, assuming you mean the two nuts securing the bottom end of the cable; nothing else needs to be loosened down there. Loosening it at the bottom makes it easy to swivel the cable around and take it out at the lever, and it's not a problem.

Assuming that you know how to adjust the clutch cable, attach the cable at both ends, screw the top end almost all the way in, then use the bottom end to take up most of the slack, then gently tighten the nuts, and make your final small adjustment at the top.

It's easy, and if you don't get it right, just loosen at the bottom and adjust some more. As long as you're in the ballpark, the fine tuning can be done at the lever end.

Get a cable luber kit (with the little gadget and a can of aerosol cable lubricant) and squirt some oil in the cable while you have it off.
