Ignition relocation and corrosion issues.
I have an '06 Bonnie and I have relocated my ignition using an LSL bracket attached the frame. I love the new location, but I have been having issues with corrosion in the switch.
The first switch failed after the relocation, but the dealer thought it was due to the cable being too tight. Before installing the second switch (replaced a year ago), the wires from the old switch were spliced in to extend the length.
This past weekend, I began to experiencing the same symptoms again (headlight will not light everytime and it will not start when the light is out). I took the switch apart and it was severely corroded to the point where the parking light contacts to the wires were almost completely rotted away (no huge loss there, as I never use the parking lights). I cleaned it and applied some dielectric grease to the opening where the wires enter the housing.
So my questions are these:
1. Has anyone else that has relocated an ignition had a similar issue?
2. Besides dielectric grease, what else would anyone recommend to help prevent the issue (aside from moving the ignition back)?
I was thinking about some Permatex silicone around the housing seams.
Any advice is appreciated.
Regards.
