Cut out at 60mph

Just bought a 2007 T100 with 1500 miles and was riding her home from where I had just bought it and this happened:

First let me say that the bike appears immaculate and runs real strong BUT I was doing about 60 and all of a sudden nothing...like no power.

I shifted into neutral and hit the starter and it fired right up. The rest of the trip home was fine.

Next day doing around 50, the exact same thing happened.

I called the guy who sold it to me and he said that it had happened to him just once and his mechanic told him that because he only used the bike every 4 or 5 months , that condensation mite build up causing water in the gas.

I thanked him but I really believe it feels more like something electrical...it just cut out...no spudder or hestitation..

Please let me know what I should do next...kinda unsafe this way.

thanks

First of all I'm skeptical of the "mechanic." If there was water in the fuel, I believe you would have more symptoms. It would very likely stutter and act up before dying rather than simply shut off abruptly.

Do you lose your electrical, idiot lights on or off?
I would start by checking all of your electrical connections.
Battery connections tight?
Side stand or clutch switch issues?
I seem top recall an issue similar to this when persons of mass (or 2-up) would compress the seat to the point where ignitor was affected (read: compressed) and would cause all sorts of grief.
I'm only guessing here, more experienced owners may have a better idea.
Oh, and Congrats on the new bike. I hope you sort this out quickly.

Mine Too

09 T100, 3000 mi, and just rebuilt with 80 miles on her. Died on decel at about 45MPH. made me sick. She cranked right back up and seems fine. Could of been the moon. You can bet, I'm going to watch this site for possible cause.
You gotta great bike.
Later....Frank

I had this problem on my Daytona. I replaced the coils and never had the problem since.

Bonnie quits too!

My 07 T100 would quit whenever I ran it up hard and then let off. It was doing it quite often. The ignition checked out on the meter. i was told it was probably rust in the gas tank. Bought a liner kit but when I took the tank off it was spotless inside. Lined it anyway. Didn't make any diff, of course. Took the seat off and pulled the plug on the ignition module and stuffed it with dielectric grease. havent had the problem since. Kind of a pain 'cause I bought one of them super coils and plugs and wires and now I don't have an excuse to work on it. Too hot anyway.

Sounds like it could be a number of things but you need to eliminate each possible cause step by step. Personally, I'd start by swapping out the coils, which tend to be unreliable on the twins, followed by other components in the spark-generating circuit. If you have a friend (or a friendly dealer) with a Bonnie you could try using his coils for a while (your friend could use your coils and see if the problem occurs on his bike). Then the CDI unit under the seat etc, etc. If the bike isn't under warranty then a friendly mechanic might point you in the direction of probable culprits which you could test this way without having to pay for hours of his expensive time as he - most likely - searches in vain for the cause of this intermittent fault.
