Find allen key that lives under left hand side panel located in a retainer between the rearmost relays.
Use that to remove the two screws on the rear of the seat. Once removed pull seat back towards rear of bike.

I've got to chuckle at that one ... reminds me of the two salesmen I asked the same question to, before I bought my '02.

Salesman #1 was at a combination BMW / Triumph dealer in San Antonio.

Salesman #2 was at a multi-brand dealer (reseller) in San Antonio - the guy had an '08 Bonneville, for $6000 (200 miles).

Neither one of those guys knew how to get under the seat. Pretty sorry-ass salesmen, in my opinion.

I just used a 5mm allen key as I couldn't find the one behind the cover, and then a couple of weeks ago, finally found it. One lovely big pile of rust. Threw it away in the end.

Check out newbonneville or bellacorse. They both sell extended bolts for the seat with nurled ends.Makes removing the seat a breeze.Well worth the $.

When all else fails, read the owners manual.
