Scrambler Question
Hello friends,
I'm new here and have a couple of questions if you could help out. I'm looking to buy an ‘08 scrambler (actually from a member on this board) but need help. I love the bike but there's one thing deterring me from purchasing this lovely bike. I’m 5’9” so I’m on my tippy toes when the bike is upright. I’ve been searching for a similar post here on the site but haven’t found anything. Is there a way to lower the bike? Would a different seat bring me lower to the ground (ie: thruxton seat or solo)?
2-3 inches lower would be ideal.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!!

All you probably need are a little shorter shocks. I put on 3/8" shorter and the bike is a nice height for me. I didn't have big issues with the height, 32" inseam. But I like to sit on the bike and push it in, out and around my shop and this makes it more convenient. I think it looks a little better too without so much space between rear tire and fender. That clearance is not needed unless you do a lot of off road. Lowering the bike may lose you a little steering quickness, but for me that was negligible. Maybe you could borrow someone's Bonneville shocks to see how much lower they would make the bike. Bonnie shocks are shorter but I'm not sure exactly how much. I also think the ironing board seat that comes on the Scrambler is the flatest of the stock seats. It's not a big problem and certainly no reason not to get what is a very cool bike.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to check and see how much the bonnie shocks run. Thanks!

Don't buy new ones! A lot of folks upgrade shocks and have used for sale. Check the classifieds here other internet sites. In fact, I might know someone with a pair laying around.

How much did it lower your bike? Good advice about not getting new ones.

Absolutely do not buy new Bonnie shocks. Get them slightly used and cheap from one of the many of us who have removed them. Or buy a decent brand in the length of your choice.

The Bonnie stock shocks are 25mm (1") shorter than the Scrams.
337mm as opposed to 362mm

All the alternative seats Ive tried are actually slightly higher than the stock Scram seat.

I'm 5'8" and 28" inseam and find the Scrambler a bit short! It is all about getting used to the size and height of a bike. I find the Scrambler has much better suspension travel and better overall feel.
Do not let a little height get to you!
Jim

What Jim said! Also, try and take it for a spin and see if you feel comfortable on it. You never know, it may be you find that you're worrying over nothing. Good luck with the bike!
