Moving to Oz... need to convert? Advice with packing (the bike).

Hey everybody! I may be moving to Sydney in the next couple months and I have two questions...

First, I have an 04 Bonnie with the normal US setup (clutch on left bar, brake on right). Will I need to have this converted, along with the throttle and have it switched? It seems nutty, but my uncle told me I may have to do it.

Second, any advice on shipping the beast over there? I'm going to be selling my car and truck since they have almost no use in that city (yay good public transportation), but I'm sure I could get use out of the bike.

Thanks!

Haha, thats good to hear. I'm pretty sure that somebody told him that it was necessary, though. It sounded more like hand-me-down knowledge than him playing a joke (I've learned what that sounds like).

To register it there you might need a KMH speedometer and a left-hand dip headlight as they drive on the left.

Wink

Unless you're REALLY attached to your Bonnie maybe you should consider selling it also and picking up a Bonnie in Sydney.

It'll cost you a 'motsa' (lots !) to freight it and could take weeks to months to get here from the States. Usually sea freight unless you're very rich and can afford airfreight.

Just my 2 cents worth; we do have lots of good Trumpys over here. Checkout www.bikepoint.com.au or www.tradingpost.com.au.

All the best

Jim

Yeah, I'm waiting on one quote for the shipping. I also just bought it about 3 months ago! Its my first bike and I'm getting to the point where I'm feeling much more comfortable on it. Le Sigh.

Do not sell your bike, if you can bring a second bike to sell on, do that, second hand bikes here are rediculasly expensive here. A new bonneville here is around $13000, a 2002 bonneville will easilier make $11000. crazy prices

You might also want to check with the RTA (RTA.com.au, the registration authorities) to find out what the rules are to get it registered. It won't have an Oz compliance plate, so getting it registered could be a problem for you, I know it is if we go OS and bring one back, I assume it would be the same for you. You may find it easier, and cheaper, to bite the bullet and buy one over here, but resale values seem pretty high so if you want a good one budget for new. AU$15500 for a T100 on the road, give or take.
