I just installed new progressive fork springs and went for a 10 mile test ride. I can feel a vast improvement in the ride of the bike but I noticed a slight harshness when hitting a bump. Also the sag is about 25-30 MM and I understand it should be around 30-35 MM. Should I let the springs settle before I start fine tuning the fork action?
My current 2001 Bonneville setup is 2" spacer and 450 ML of 10wt fork oil.
I put them in my scrambler as well. I used 10w fork oil at first but thought that was a little too harsh. I used a 50/50 mix of 5wt and 10wt. I also set my oil level 5.5" from the top of the fork tube with the forks fully compressed and the springs removed. I don't actually know how much oil I put in each one but I think on a scrambler it ends up being a little more if you do it by measuring oil level vs volume.
The fork springs did settle a bit after about two months so I woulldn't mess with the sack, yet.
I put 'em in my 07 SM...I used a siphon to get as much of the factory fill out as possible & refilled with a blend of 5/10/20 Bel Ray...if I had to guess I would say it is somewhere about 12 - 13 wt...after a while the springs took a set, & then I added 10mm longer than stock PVC spacers, & now the front end is perfect for me.
