2001 side cover castings bad??

I seem to remember reading on this forum about problems with the interior of the engine side covers on the 2001 model.

Can anyone direct me to the proper thread? my 90 minutes of searching has gotten me nowhere.

I want to buy a 2003 or 2004 Blue and Opal, but am having trouble finding one. There is a 2001 Red and Silver a few hours away, but what I thought I remembered reading about the case and starter motor attach point failing is giving me pause.

Thanks for any help.

i am a 2001 owner. for what it's worth, i've had zero problems with my bike in spite of what you've heard about the side covers and what i've heard about the oil coolers. i wouldn't hesitate to buy the '01 that's near you, but that's just based upon my experience of owning only 1 '01 bike. good luck.

I'm not sure that the problem you mention is unique to 2001. Triumph might have beefed up this area in later years, but if they did, they didn't publicize it.

its the block that they built up and yes the older bikes are weak in that area but alot of them have had no trouble but when they do its buy a new $3500. set of cases to fix it.
