Bonneville Headlight
Took my Bonneville in for its MOT yesterday and although it passed, the examiner was not happy about the headlight. In his opinion there is too much movement in it, which could cause problems to vehicles I was following. He tried to alter it but couldnt, I have tried the same this morning. I even checked against another Bonneville I saw parked up and that was the same. The movement is only very small and it seems to me that it is just play in the rubber washers, anyone else had problems with there headlight. The bike is a 05 T100

Every motorcycle I have ever owned had some movement in the headlight, as does my '07 Bonneville.

My T100 headlamp has a lot of movement too, although it passed the MOT, and it appears to be due to the rubber mounts. Although I don't think you could actually alter the setting of the headlamp it does seem to wobble alot.
I've never noticed this on any other bike I've owned.

It prevents high frequency low amplitude loading of the filament preventing premature light failure. A further benefit is is throws a darting beam which alerts drivers regarding your presence...a good thing.
BTW...what is the best low cost kluge for an upgraded halogen? 65W F7 or F9 with a bit of surgery on the lamp base?

Had the same problem with my light and it would slowly end up pointing downwards. Rubbers were not gripping the light firmly and the pressure of the wires entering the rear did not help. Had the 800km service done on Friday and mentioned it to be looked at when they fitted the flyscreen. Much better now with very little movement.
Read recently about a HID kit that has been developed to replace the H4 globe. The transformer was about a third smaller and would quite easily fit behind the light shell. Anyone seen the same ? I think it was on the UK eBay website. Would improve lighting greatly as it had a 6000l output.

Light
Get a little tube of loctite & put a drop /2 on it. It'll do the trick!

Do you think this is the bulb or filament, or the headlamp bucket? I recently replaced my stock lense/mirror and bulb kit. After installation I've noticed quite a bit of movement compared to the stock parts. It may be I didn't seat the bulb well when I installed it in the base.

Bonneville Headlight movement with fly screen
I recently fitted a fly screen to my 2011 Bonneville and noticed with the wind hitting the screen at higher speeds my headlight moves upwards. No matter how tight I get it, because of the rubber mounts the headlight has a little play. I noticed that the headlight on the standard bonneville models does not have this problem.
Any suggestions?
Sean
