Turn Signal Flasher Relay

Had a warm day and pulled the Triumph out for a ride...woot, no turn signals...the lights just get brighter but don't blink.

The Triumph Dealer wants $62 for a new one and it will take 7-10 days...Is there a replacement from a place like Napa that might cross reference (I'm sure it's the same as some Japanese car or Honda/Kawi etc.)?

Thanks,
Frank

No flashee

Find the turn signal flasher and pull the plug, gently clean the contacts with ultrafine sandpaper and re assemble using dielectric grease to protect the contacts. Your contacts can corrode or get a light coating of oxidation and cause an interrupted voltage surge. The brightening of your lights may be the clue here.
good luck...

It's definitely a standard part, although I don't know the cross-reference. Someone at some point discovered it was the same as a replacement for a certain Ford product, if I remember correctly.

If drying and cleaning doesn't work, you might be able to cross-reference it based on what's written on it. Pull it out and have a look.

I'm pulling it out today and going to try and find a replacement...if I do find a standard part, I'll repost with pictures.

Thanks,
Frank

More than likely you'll find it's the same as any other motorcycle flasher relay with the same number of pins.

Quite possibly a diode which direct current in only one direction when working properly. Has the polarity been reversed at some point in your turn signal circuit? Diodes don't like reverse polarity. Most motorcycles have diodes within their turn signal circuit and what divorces 4 way flashers from independent sides of the bike. I will be getting a manual in the next couple of days and maybe able to help when I have a schematic of the circuit.
Best,
George

Common part

I replaced mine with one I got from Advance auto parts. I don't remember what I used but I think it might come from a Ford Ranger. Take the old one in and they can match it up for you. The one i got had one side longer then the rest but it fit fine. Oh yeah it was about $5.00 as I recall.

Quite certain there is nothing wrong with the OP's flasher relay. The relay is the very same module that powers both the turn signals independently as well as the turn signals all together aka 4-way flasher. So his flasher relay is working. The issue is directing current flow. He likely has a blown diode on the one side that is setting all four signals off. Diodes are inexpensive and available at Radio Shack.
