Suggested Methods of for applying Chain lube...

A silly question perhaps, but thought I would poll the knowledgable borg here. Don't need to debate what type of lube...which is a discussion unto itself...I am a dry lube guy...and even frequency is contested. I am more interested in how you apply the lube to the chain. I will preface and say I do not have a center stand on my new Bonny which I believe would make the task easier. The lube I use is White Lightening having good luck with it on racing bicycles over the years. It drips out of the bottle versus a spray. Is my best effort to drip it on the bottom section of chain, push the bike forward...drip another exposed bottom section of chain...push the bike again and repeat?
Seems hard to apply it without a center stand to rotate the wheel and with the chain guard in place.

Thanks for any shared experience.
George

Get a short piece of 2x4, place it along with a small floor jack under the center stand mounts. Then tie off the right handle bar with a ratchet strap to a tree, post etc.
Jack it up, spin the wheel!
I do it ever week... Works well!

I don't have a center stand, and I apply it just like you. I don't think there is another way without a center stand. I use the spray and wipe off the excess. What I hate is it says no fling, but my rear rim has this sticky lube all over it, I just given up on cleaning it off. Thinking about changing the type I use all together ( use PJ1 blue can )

Thumbs up Wax

Been using it since day 2. I have a sears jack & it is really easy. Clean (well) with WD-40 & wipe dry. Ride bike to warm chain. Apply wax thourougyhly & let stand for 3 hrs or O/N. Never had ANY oil on my RR wheel!

Another way to skin the cat...

Before a friend gave me a proper jack, I used to turn the bars hard left and tilt it up on the side stand. I would then commission my wife to balance the bike there until I had finished cleaning the chain.
I would then take it on a 15 minute ride to "heat things up", return to the carport and repeat the balancing act as I applied the chain wax.
The Service Manager at the local dealership advised me to do this as the links would expand slightly and the lube would be "sucked in" as it cooled.
After this, I would let the bike sit overnight and have experienced only minimal "fling" on my rear wheel from the lube.
It's almost fun to do now with the jack and I don't have to worry about my sparring partner dropping the bike.

Thanks guys...keep the suggestions comin. I never use the ride the bike and heat the chain first method...simply apply it cold. I do apply dry lube overnight to mitigate fling however. PS: I try to keep my sparring partner away from my bike...the balancing routine would be too tempting for her

Biker 7

Just do like I do and tell her YOU are the beneficiary on your life insurance policy.
(Then buy a jack)

That sears jack is such a cheap and wonderful investment. I have had mine for years and used it for a couple of years for my heavy as hell VTX 1800. I think they go 50 bucks.. go buy one you will never regret it.

I ride my bike until the chain is nice a hot.. hey gives me an excuse to go out .. Get it home. Up on the lift, throw a piece of cardboard on the floor and lube away. I let it set for a couple of beers, Time can be measured in beer, and come out an wipe off chain.

I then take my spray lube and liberally spray it on to my back rim and all my spokes ... Going to get there anyway and it removes the shock of my anti fling .. flinging.
