dimples: nice on girls' smiles - not so much on fork spacers

my wreck a few months ago wasn't really that bad - it was low-speed - but one point of impact was on the right fork, as seen by the rusty scar in the following picture:

i just replaced that nasty headlight bracket and saw that beneath it, the fork tube was impacted too. there was a small dent in it... so i removed the top bolt from the fork and removed the spacer inside. there was even a barely noticeable dimple on that too.

all that being said - the forks are not bent, as verified by my local shop. they still seem to function properly. my plan is to eventually - probably soon - buy a new pair of forks - probably upgrades from stock too, now that i have an excuse - but does anyone see a major problem with me riding around locally with what i've got? how stupid/dangerous would this be? i tried to take a picture of the spacer's dimple, but it wouldn't even show up in a photograph. i already replaced the bracket, so unfortunately no pic of the fork tube - and i'm not about to remove that top yoke again! that sucked.

opinions?

You should be fine. The spacer has a small dent, the fork tube a smaller dent, and the area you are referring to houses an internal spacer tube which has a small clearance from the tube wall, and is not a moving component. I don't see how you could have a problem, and really don't think replacement is called for, but it is an excuse.

I think that there is a company, Franks, that specializes in replacement fork tubes should you just want to replace the tube.

But you need not worry.

that's kind of what i thought. everything you said makes sense. i don't think it's that big of a deal, but i just wanted to see what others said. i'll give frank's a look.

thanks, man.
