After market headlight housing?

After trying 3 different aftermarket headlight bulbs, I am still not real excited about doing 80mph through the woods at night. Does anyone know if there is a brighter aftermarket headlight lens that fits in the stock bucket, or is there an entire aftermarket headlight bucket and lens that looks just like the stock?

i have to replace my headlight assembly since it was damaged in a wreck and have come up with a plan, which hopefully you haven't already tried and rejected:

headlight shell: emgo universal shell - part number 66-65066 can be found on this page:
http://mcctriumph.com/HEADLITE.aspx

7" Cibie H4 round headlamp and an H4 70/65W Osram Plus 50 from daniel stern lighting -

see http://www.danielsternlighting.com/p.../products.html

as far as i understand, after shooting some emails off to several people in the biz, this should work and light your way nicely.

So the Cibie H4 lamp will not fit in the standard housing? Please let me know if you order this stuff and it all works, as I think the cost is worth it if I can see better.

Yes, it will. Unless you have a Scrambler which has a real odd size headlamp.

The first thing I did to my Thruxton was to pull a Cibie E-Code out of my car and try it in the bike. Fits fine and is a massive improvment from the stock lamp. Get the Cibie E-Code and a good H4 bulb. I found the Cibie to have a better pattern than the Hella. I am thinking about moving up to a 80/100 watt bulb if I can fit a relay inside the bucket and will need to upgrade the wiring to handle the load. Again this is a huge improvement and I feel Cibie has the best optics of any 7" headlamp.

Got mine from www.talbotco.com

This is the part?
7-HCR 7" "E-code" Halogen Low / High Beam Cibie H4 $85.00 ea.

The guy on this thread http://www.motorcycle.com/products/s...lear-3577.html says he dropped a 100W high beam/55W low beam in his SV650 and claims no worries. His stock lamp was 60W high beam.

Have you done the install yet? Which bulb did you go with? That same thread mentions
Candlepower H4 Halogen
http://candlepowerinc.com/
Clear type
Volts: 12V
Watts: 100W high beam/55W low beam
Price: $15.49

One solution that works...

I went with the same solution as Metasac. A quality lens, reflector and lamp made a lot of difference over the lower quality OEM unit. It was also reasonable cost at $70-$80. Owing the amount of fog in and around SF, I also went with a yellow lamp shroud which makes me more visible on the road.

Whoa,

That is the correct headlamp. Use them in both car and bike. I also am using the Candlepower bulb you listed with no problems for 3 years in my car. I have not yet upgraded to the high wattage bulbs yet. The factory wires may work just fine, but I want to bypass the OEM harness to ensure that I am getting full voltage to the bulbs. Almost all electrical systems have some voltage loss due to resistance of the harness.

Stay away from the dark blue or purple tinted bulbs..they actually put out less light.

Aussiematt,
Where did you get the yellow shroud?
Also, what is a shroud?
