Smile How much should I pay for a used 2009 Bonnie?

Hi,

I have an opportunity to by a used 2009 bonnie black w/ spoked wheels with 500 miles on it. The buyer bought it last month broke it in and is deciding to sell it. He has the following accessories on it:
Triumph Summer Screen
Triumph Locking gas cap
Triumph Center Stand

He is asking 8100. What do you think I should offer? I do still have to pay tax in my state on title transfer.

This is a good opportunity for me to pick up a 09 with EFI and spoked wheels.

TIA

Start at $7500 and Haggle

Although $8100 doesn't seem bad. I got my Black EFI Spokey for $8200 from the dealer with nothing on it except for 8 miles.

I think you need to knock some off that - you can pretty much get the same bike brand new from the dealer for not much more than that. I would suggest 7500 to 7700. Like you say - you have to pay tax on it yet.

Or just go and get a new one and have the satisfaction of breaking it in yourself.

OTD from the dealership with a new '08 Bonnie Black yesterday for $7510, I think you can do better than $8100.

Well there you are - with those accessories definitely no more than 7500, more like 7000 to 7200.

That's the proce of buyingh a new vehicle and not keeping it - sucks for the guy selling it, but he should have thought it through.

Thanks for the replies folks

The seller is saying

"New from a dealer, this bike would cost $10K+ with all the equipment, freight, set-up, and installation fees."

Is this for real? Wouldn't it just be price+tax+licensing? Tax is 9% in my state.

I've yet to visit the dealer or buy a new motorcycle but this doesn't seem true

Call a dealer and get a quote on that bike - based on what Queen paid - maybe 8500 for that bike new. Bit of a guess.

used new bonnie

Looks like the guy who bought it and changed his mind about owning one is trying to recover all his costs.
In this world "it aint gonna happen".....as soon as you drive a new vehicle, car or bike, out the door it IMMEDIATELY depreciates to "used" condition and the price drops....
Motorcycle Consumer News publishes stats on your bike, and I'm using a bonneville since they don't list the black(bonnie would be a bit higher by maybe $1000) but they rate the bike, used as being worth $6999(msrp). The accessories he has cost less than $500 and would not add a substantial amount to the deal...
IMHO what you have here is a dude who probably paid too much for the bike in the first place and is trying to recover his "screw up" money and let you pay for his mistake.
I would likely stay away from this, go and buy a new one. The market is really sloooow right now and he's likely not going to find someone foolish enough to buy his mistake and eventually he might come down(if he realizes and owns up to the fact he screwed up) on the price, otherwise as far as I'm concerned he can sit on it.
So, hope this helps you make a decision, it's likely if you make a lower offer he's going to stand on his asking price...it's too soon for him to realize his error and take a financial hit for his mistake (which he should, for his own sake) but he's probably hard headed and won't budge right now.
For what he wants, you could probably get a really nice T-100 from a dealer and still come out ahead.

I saw a used 08 (might have been an 07) with only 1,500 miles for way less than $6,000 at my dealer's open house yesterday. I think it had a couple accessories too. Just another data point for you.

My local dealer recently quoted $650 for freight and prep combined on a '09 Scramber so you can expect some significant costs beyond the TTL stuff if you buy new. I guess what I'd be most concerned about is why the guy is selling so quickly. If he unexpectedly lost his job or had some other unforseen financial crisis it's perfectly understandable, but if he just made what turned to be a poor decision then you'd have to wonder if he had the sense to properly break in the bike (which isn't complete at 5h anyway).
