Best Electric Vest System For Bonnies

Okay, I'm finally getting old. I need a heated vest and am wondering which is best for our bikes? Any leads?

There's several good ones on the market ....Gerbing has been around for ages. The one I was about to buy is mfg'd by an old line company that is shutting their doors at the end of 2008. Aside from warranty ending at that time, the Widder System1 or Sys2 both look lightweight and functional. They offer a set of snap off/on long sleeves that hook up via snaps that also serve as electrical connectors. I may still give them a call and buy a complete setup before they close up shop. Also, ck Aerostitch. Somewhat pricy, however.

I guess the thing to consider is whether you want a thin one with no collar that fits nicely under your cold weather riding jacket. I purchased a BMW model several years ago that functions just fine, but it has the turtleneck heated collar that makes it nearly impossible to zip my jacket to the top. I find just the sleeveless vest models do wonders when the weather turns cool.

I also installed an inexpensive set of grip heaters that do a good job of keeping the mitts warm on those cool fall days.

Most of the sleeveless vests draw about half the juice your high beam does.

Although you can attach leads directly to the battery, you may also want to consider Triumph's 12v outlet and install the BMW type plug on your vest hookup.

Bob

BTW - sorry you're finally getting old!

I have a Widder, no collar, thermostat control option rather than just on-off switch.
It comes with a disconnect plug with a fuse that connects to the battery. I just zip tied the plug out of sight to the frame tube.

Keep in mind that you want to buy it snug wearing just a thin shirt. You don't want or need insulation between you and the heat.

And there IS heat!

Now if only Triumph heated seats.

Beemie - you made a great point about the fit of the vest. Loose - no good! Got to be snug next to thin clothing. So the point is .... if you're mail ordering, make sure you have a good working relationship with the supplier, so if it doesn't fit and keep you warm, you can exchange it for a smaller/larger size.

I got the Tourmaster synergy vest. See review at http://www.webbikeworld.com/heated-m...nergy/vest.htm
Nice price and includes multi temp controller. Gets very warm. I'm very satisfied with it.

So... how old do u hav 2B to qualify for that heated vest...?

I have the Widder outfit also, collarless, just on/off.

I guess I am getting old(er) - I started thinking about windshield and fairing bikes and for the long-haul GoldWings too...
