Back on a Bonnie

I traded my 2002 T100 two years back on a Speed Triple and have regretted it ever since. I sold the Speed triple last year and purchased a Star Stratoliner. The Stratoliner is a great bike but I just missed having a Bonnie. Today I purchased a 2007 Bonneville
T100 with 1300 miles. Can't wait to pick it up. It has a roadster screen which is going to come right off, and a low sissy bar which I'll keep on. Otherwise it's bone stock, black and red.

I still have a lot of stuff which I took off my 2002. Ma's engine guards with highway pegs, Triumph leather bags, summer screen, high sissy bar, king and queen seat (all that stuff was on the bike when I bought it). Most of it I'll put up for sale as I want to keep the Bonnie sleek looking. I have the Stratoliner for touring.

I need to put on pipes and have it rejetted - the air injection has to go too. What is recommended for pipes. The 2002 had the TOR's which were too quiet IMO.

Anyway I'm real excited. There's just something about a Bonneville. My favorite bike ever.

Hello

Hello everybody. Figured I should finally introduce myself. I bought my new Bonnie at the end of April and turned 3K today. I also posted a small ride report from a trip today if you're interested.

The forum has been a great help already, even before I bought the bike.

Anyone in the Atlanta area looking for someone to ride with, shoot me a PM.

Welcome aboard, I am like an hour away from you near the N GA mountains. If you don't mind riding with a sport bike shoot me a pm and we can plan something. I used to live in Douglas county so I know alot of good roads out in your area as well.

Finally got it !

Took delivery of my new '08 EFI America this afternoon. Blue on blue, with TOR longs, lightbar, sissybar, enginebar (all the bars?!), screen, footboards and 18-litre bags. Love the bike - it's got the soul that my FJR lacks. Feels alive, sounds great and corners much better than I expected. And very comfortable. Did I mention it feels alive!?!

Question- it's popping on decel - is this normal with the TORs or should I think about remapping?

Glad to be able to be part of the forum now, after lurking for so many months.

Grinning from ear to ear,
Pedro

Not sure yet. I have the low sissy bar on the bike right now. I think I'm gonna keep the high sissy bar for longer trips so I could attach a bag to it.

I'd probably be willing to swap the low sissy bar for the grab rail if anybody was interested.

I test rode the Speed Triple and Bonny back to back.
I found the Speed Triple riding position too aggressive but loved the power. Can you comment on why you regretted owning the Speed Triple?
I do agree the Bonnie is a more comfortable and more docile bike to live with day in and day out. The thing I have learned is a bike is much more than power when it comes to what matters.

I didn't regret so much owning the Speed Triple, it was more NOT owning the Bonneville. The only problem I had with the Speed Triple was the riding position. It felt wierd to me to have the bars combined with the real high footpegs. My upper body was sitting up, but my legs were really bent under me. Just felt kinda wierd almost like a crouch position. The Bonnie feels much more natural. The Speed Triple was a blast to ride although you just want to go faster and faster.

Newbie here.

Hi, I've been lurking on here for years now and finally.... I actually have a Triumph. I just bought RMAK's 2005 Bonneville Black and took it for our first ride.

Oh yes!.... I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. (Me and the Bonneville that is, though of course RMAK is a nice bloke too).

These bikes handle nicely, predictable in turns, just the right power and just where you need it. I'm hooked.

Thanks Rich (RMAK) - I'll look after her!!

I once owned a brand new Bonnie. I bought it in 1979 and it was a great bike. I have ridden a modern Bonnie and they also are great bikes also. You made a good choice on buying your Bonie. I wish you good fourtune and safe riding. And welcome to the Ratnet Bambam.

Wow, thanks for the welcome messages everyone. I feel like part of the family already.

On reflection, I thought of something that would improve the ride significantly. I need new tyres. I felt a definite 'ridge' leaning into turns on my first ride. Not enough to spook me, but noticeable nonetheless. When I got back I saw the rear tyre is a little squared off. So, my first change is going to be new rubber. I'm considering the Metzeler LaserTec mainly because I've always had good experience with Metzelers. But I will be using the search engine on here to review other options: always open to suggestions.

This is a bit weird but I have to ask: does anyone else here sneak out and look at their bike in the garage from time to time? Just to have a look, not to check on anything in particular..
(no, me neither)

Hahaha, that sounds familiar!
I often find I am wandering out to the garage, 'just to check something' when really I'm just ogling my bike!
My dear wife just rolls her eyes.

Oh, welcome to the cult!
You'll be drinking the kool-aid soon! (Making mods like mad, that is!)
:)
