The dealer made it right - and the America grew on me...
I have my beautiful Scrambler back in the carport where she belongs after a rather difficult week. My bike started running rough the day before I took her in for the 18,000 mile service and a service writer named Lucas tried to find everything he could think of to blame it on me instead of trying to get it covered under warranty. I handle warranty disputes professionally for Ford and I remember being on hold last week and looking at my wife and telling her "this dumb bastid has no idea who he is F-ing with". It shouldn't have been this difficult but the dealership made it right and expedited the warranty repair and the general manager had a brand new America trailered 75 miles to my work. I live in Florida but I'm a New Englander so I don't have or want a cage because it is never too cold to ride and i'll take riding in the rain over driving in the snow any day.
My first impression of the America was that it was a hog with Triumph badges but this bike really grew on me after a week of riding. The forward controls took a little getting used to but I love the way the bike handles and that will probably be my next bike when the Scrambler is paid off. I will never get rid of the Scram and, to paraphrase Charlton Heston, "you will pry my Scrambler from my cold, dead hands", but I think the next Triumph in the stable will be an America and the Rocket has been put off for a while. I will never own anything but British steel because they are so incredibly well made. The Harley guys are all about "if it ain't a Harley it ain't blah blah" but my feeling is "If it ain't a Triumph but you ride the hell out of it, it ain't as cool as a Triumph but you sure are because it's not really what you ride, it's THAT you ride." I'm done rambling.
