Question Are California Bonnevilles and Scramblers different?

Does CA require different equipment that rest of country or are they all the same nationwide?

CA has tighter emission laws than most states, so their bikes are probably strangled more than others :P

No, they are the same. The EVAP system required by California mysteriously appears on many, many Triumphs - no matter what the market. It all can be removed. There are no inspections in California (yet).

Out of state bike?

So I can buy an out of state bike with no issues when registering it (do they require any smog cert like cars)?

Good question, but smog certs are NOT required. Call a dealer. Most are helpful.

Cali Cars & Bikes

There has always been a Cali emmission STD. The Bonne's there have an evap system. In some states they are probably here as well. Besides that I dont know? Req there! I think all states now are cali conforming? Trucks may be different? Bonne's here & in some non inspect states- the evap is not req. Eventually all states will be the same. My Bonne had the A/I as did them all. A quick removal for a VERY primitave system!! A big improvement!! I know in NJ they do inspection on bikes. Not sure in CAli? No inspection here in Fla @ all!
A major pluss in some ways. Not good when some guy buys a POS crapper & runs it on the road- like a killer car!! Bikes should be exempt from inspection. If someone rides A BIKE THAT ISNT SAFE- then he will kill him-her self & not (hopefully ) not someone else. Its 400 lbs going down the road vs 4000 lbs!~ I know Cali is tuff on cars- not sure about bikes tho? Would you fly a plane you werent SURE was sAFE?? Not me!!!

difference in CA Triumphs

There are no mechanical differences in the bikes but when viewed with the owner the over all effect is more pleasing.

No SMOG requirements, but the bike has to have at least 3,500 miles on it before you can register it in California. [if the bike was purchased out of state]
