Leaving work at noon and heading to the dealer
Picking up my wife at 12:30 and we're going to the dealer. I hope she can reasonably touch the ground when sitting on the Bonnie. I plan to lower it for her. I'm buying the bike for me to commute to work but she is taking the MSF course in September and she'll ride it on the weekends. She'd love to have a Nightster but I look ridiculous riding one. She loves the retro look of the Bonnie too. I'll eventually get her whatever bike she wants. Probably be a Dyna Lowrider when I think she can handle it.
I really want to get a Bonnie Black but none of the dealers have any in stock. The dealer in Buckhead (Atlanta) said he can get one in a few days though but it's strange that none of the other dealers have offered to source one. They just say "we're out". There is a Black/White T100 though. Not really looking for the extra bling though but we'll see what happens. Depends of how bad they want to make a deal. The dealer in Buckhead said they sold 30 bikes last week. I have a feeling he was exaggerating a bit.
Wish me luck. Hoping to post some pictures up soon!

BAH,
When I bought my Bonneville Black early last year, I was told exactly the same by 2 dealers - none to be had. The third dealer, and the one I remain with, ordered one for me, and had it in a week.
I believe the profit margin would be less on a Black than on the rest, or... they are just lazy? At any rate, I would have to think they prefer to sell ya' out of inventory, as opposed to ordering something. Maybe I'm wrong.
I say this because I'm a stickler for: "Get what you want, don't settle for less, you'll never be as happy".
I'd suggest going with the 2 day wait, it's worth it.
Also, I don't know of too many "New Triumph" owners who switch brands afterwards. I think maybe there is something in the 8 hour old rancid coffee at the dealership that affects the brain, and you never switch brands once you've owned a Triumph.
You may look good on a Rocket III. Try it... you'll like it!

dealers
Most dealers would prefer to sell you one they have in stock. Usually, when a dealer outsources a bike for a customer they have to pay a small fee to the other dealer for taking one of his bikes, this cuts their profit margin a bit and that's why you get "we're out of those" replies.
The T-100s are mighty nice, unless you're dead set on a blacked out model, get a T-100, you won't regret it one bit.
My wife is 5'8" and can handle my bonnie just fine. You can lower the bike several different ways though, shave the seat foam down or get a thruxton seat, get lower shocks and forks, just search the site for info on that procedure.
Good luck...keep the rubber side down..

I bought a Black last year too. They had one on the showroom floor, but oh no that one was promised so I had to wait almost two weeks. When I finally got it, it was a ton of fun. Been that way ever since. :

I knew I wanted a Black and wouldn't settle for the others (hate silver/chrome) I got one he had ordered and was told the Blacks were drying up fast. Couldn't be happier! Hope you and the Mrs enjoy it as much as I do!

If you don't mind making a day of it, Powersports in Greenville SC had a few Bonnie's that I was interested in for my wife (me), while getting service done on the America. Sorry , no phone # at hand.

Yeah, go with the dealer who will put themselves out for you a bit. They can get you a black if that's what you want - and the black is the way to go! It's great!
Mine was "just came in today" when I phoned the dealer to talk about it. At that time I guess they were shifting Bonnie blacks easily, but couldn't shift scramblers.
Was in there the other day, and now they can't get enough scramblers to meet demand.....go figure.
Anyway, I like my dealer, they remember my name and they're nice to me. I like that.
Get the black.

Yesterday turned out to be quite an adventure.
My wife and I went to the Triumph dealer. They had a black/white T100 and 3 Scramblers - including an '07 with the promotion of $1000 in accessories. She sat on the Bonnie and was on her tip toes. She really didn't like the bike - "too old fashion". I told her that is what made it so cool. I knew I was losing ground fast.
We left there and went to the Harley dealer. I wanted her to look at the Nightster which she used to like. She wasn't crazy about it although it fit her perfectly. There was a black Sportster 1200 Custom that she really liked. Most HD dealers don't have much stock because the new models will be out in 3 weeks and they stopped '08 production a month or so ago. The best price the guy could give me out the door include (7% tax was $10,800. I told him I'd have to think about it.
This entire adventure started out with me find a commuter bike to ride 3 or 4 days during the week and ended up with looking for a bike for her to ride.
I jumped on ebay when I got home. I found an '06 Sportster 1200 Custom with SE Pipes, SE Air cleaner, Windshield, Backrest/Rack, and only 3k miles on it for $7900. I called the owner to get some information and everything sounded solid, so I bought it. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow about 200 miles from my house.
I'm excited about the new Sporty but very bummed about not getting the Triumph. I was looking forward to something new. Maybe next Spring after she starts riding the Sporty more, she won't want me to ride it to work all the time. Then I'll get the Triumph.
I'll still be hanging around too.
