Need to carry a rifle on your bike?

You must live in a $hitty neighborhood....

Bonnie and Clyde?

It must be a really different world in America.
When I first started reading this thread I thought it must have been a joke.
But, you guys are for real!
Firstly, I can't believe that so many of you have guns, and secondly, why you'd ever want to carry them on your bike!
I don't know of anyone that owns a gun around here. In fact, I haven't even met anyone that owned a gun for at least 10 years. That was my brother-in-law when he was in the army and he wasn't allowed to take it off the barricks.
We don't even have gun shops or ammo shops here, so even if you wanted a gun most people wouldn't know where to get one.
About 9 years ago, after some big massacre in Tasmania, the government of the time made possession of a firearm illegal and confiscated the nations guns with some big amnesty.
The only people that have guns now are criminals, outlaw bikie gangs, terrorists and the Mafia and I don't think that too many of them ride Bonnies!

The fact that you can't believe we actually own guns goes to show that for the most part gun owners really are normal, regular, law-abiding folks. Shocking, eh? And some choose to carry them on their bikes for the safe, legal, and legitimate purpose of transporting them to a firing range for some recreational shooting and not, as some would like to lead you to believe, to engage in rolling firefights.

You indicate that you don't know of anyone who owns a gun, except of course those who openly engage in criminal activity. It seems you feel very safe and comfortable with that knowledge. Now it's my turn to be astonished.

Firstly, I had no choice in that legislation and I didn't support it. Hence my post immediatley after, joking about throwing rocks at invaders.

Secondly, most of the time those who engage in criminal activities, usually seem to shoot their own. You hardly ever hear of anyone getting held up with a gun. Usually it's at knife-point, or they throw rocks! lol

No critisism

I just want to say that it was not a critisism. I just wanted to point out how different things are here to that in America. I wasn't suggesting that your wrong and we're right, or that you're the ones that are different. Perhaps it's us. I was hoping that it might get some responses from some of our UK friends.
I understand the enjoyment of hunting. We have a bow-hunters club here and most guys around here go fishing out at the reef for Spanish Mackerel and other so-called game fish.
But, I have to point out that at the age of 51 I have never owned a gun.
Also, we had a murder here just recently. First one in 15 years, ...and it was with a knife. However, the one before that was with a gun. A drug dealer blew away his missus for screwing someone else.
