I remember reading somewhere a rider recommended doing a little back and forth weave to wake the tailgater up a bit. I haven't had to try it but he wrote that tailgaters would back off immediately and on a positive note nobody gets pissed off. It's a win-win.
Worth a try.

A few ways I deal with them.
The first is to let them pass...this works most of the time.
If they are a rager, and are REALLY kissing my a$$, I wave my left hand up and down indicating to slow down. If all fails, do what you can to escape.
Makes me wish I have a blue tooth helmet to call the CHP to report road rage drivers. Its so funny that cagers think it's their RIGHT to drive, when in reality DRIVING IS A PRIVILEGE!!!
I do have an interesting story that relates to this and this happened a couple years ago on my way to work. I was on my 675 and someone was tailing me, I move over one lane and he follows. He then gets really close and then I do the "slow down wave". He then pulls beside me and creeps closer to me. I get enraged and fear this guy is trying to take me out. He then pulls in front of me and hits his brakes hard. I had to do an evasive maneuver and I gave him the finger. He then passes me and passes a few cars dangerously in the process. Then we hit traffic and he has to slow down. I lane split and when I see his car, I give a nice kick to his passenger door. I'm pretty sure I put I nice dent on there because I was wearing my Sidi boots at the time this happened.
I am a very and friendly calm rider & cager, but when someone purposely tries to take me out...all I can say is he got what he deserves. I hope his license is revoked

It depends.
If I'm in the far left lane, then yeah, I need to move over as I shouldn't be there unless I'm passing someone anyway. These are Old School rules I know, but I guess I'm just old.
If I'm in the right lane(s) then I slowly slow down to the speed limit, and stay there. No "brake checking" as that is considered as bad as tailgating. My motive is in my signature below. If everyone started doing this - not giving in to tailgaters - eventually they might get the message. Message being - the aggressive and attempted intimidating behaviour you are using doesn't work. Try following the rules of the road like the rest of us.
I believe this slowing down procedure was the method covered in the MSF course. The idea is to slow down when tail-gated to provide enough space in front of you to react in the case of a potential accident.
Two wrongs don't make a right, so retaliation activity is just as bad as the act IMHO. For someone to seriously tailgate a motorcyclist, that person would most likely have some repressed or semi-active psychopathic tendencies, so realise what character defects you might be dealing with.

I do the exact same thing. If they don't take the hint I'll slow down and do the exact speed limit or move and try my best to avoid them.

Slam the brakes on and flip the bird
Oh, no that's my inside voice..... usually.
Usually, I rarely get a tail gater, and if I do, it's only seconds before I'm out of there.
If there's too much on coming traffic, I might move aside and wave them ahead sarcastically - though I'm not sure how that comes across through a closed helmet.

he just sat there shaking like a french soldier.
Awesome.
If I can't let them past, I start with a touch on the rear brakes to turn on the light without slowing me down. Then, I slow down to below the speed limit, then speed up. once we get to a point where I can let them past, I do..

I'm not inclined to confront, but I just recalled something I've done before. I can move my gear shift ever so gently into the reverse position, but stop before any gears touch gears, and it turns on my back-up lights! It has worked the few times I've done it. My theory is that it's so weird to them that they back off for no other reason than to contemplate the oddness of it.

Stupid always hurts
I installed the flashing brake light deal and that seems to get their attention but the bottom line is to be safe so I pull over when I can if they don't back off. It is not a time for macho.
Now I have thought of beheading one of them and putting the head on the back of my bike with a sign that says-"Don't Tailgate" but I recall some rule about not doing that.
