scrambler custom paint ideas

I'm trying out some ideas in photoshop, here's one I did last night... I think it would look great like this with a matte finish... with black rims(chrome spokes) and some nice beefy TKC 80's

Can chrome be painted? or does it make the paint just chip off? Would a paint shop strip the chrome first?

Powder coat the chrome. You can get virtually any color in gloss or matte. Eurosports Cycle in Fort Worth had a project Thruxton with the wheels done in matte black centers, leaving the rims polished. Very nice look.

How about an animal-print theme? Zebra, if you're bold and original. Tiger/leopard/jaguar if your're feeling feeline.

suggest you check out rhodie's scrambler for inspiration, though aside from the few of us with matte black scramblers I haven't seen too many paint jobs other than factory (if I am wrong, would love to see pics). keep us posted, sounds like you'll be doing something really kick a$$.

Hi

I guess you may have seen this custom tribute to Steve McQueen. I think it was a limited run by the British Triumph bike dealer Jack Lilly although I can't be a 100% sure.

There must be some great ways to customise a Scrambler.

I get lots of attention on mine; people seem to like it, both bikers and non bikers alike.

Casper

I'd like to see a white/green or white/orange version.

Possibily painting the fenders or striping them.

Black wheels would look nice but after a while, the price of new paint and the wheels might not make it worth it. I know a good paint job where they bake it on can be almost 1000-, add the wheels, and it adds up to quickly.

Curious to see the final project

thanks for the replies, good stuff. I hadn't seen that mcQueen bike, now I like the black rims even more... I think I'd go with powdercoating for the rims for durability... will have to look into the cost.

Were it my bike, I would paint the bike satin silver and have a good pinstripper lay down some sort of nickname on the tank in gold leaf like desert rat bikes of the early 60's.

Very tastefull. +1. I'd also like to see the same thing in black, with either red or gold pinstriping.
I've always thought that a scram would look good done up like an old dispatch riders bike, & apart from OD, I'd also like to see one in Camo or RAF blue.
