New or Used Triumph Thruxton
Hello everybody, i am new to the forum, so fisrt let me introduse myself...
My name is Idomeneas and i am from Greece...
I am in love with the triumph thruxton and really need to drive this bike as fast as possible...
Here in Greece the price for a new thruxton is 10.590 euros which is equal to 8.400 pounds, from a guy that was selling a used one in ebay.co.uk i read that the price in England is 6000 pounds...
Is that true?
If it is, one solution is to buy one brand new from UK and bring it here in Greece,
or to find a used one... in mind condition...
Can someone help me with that?
I searched in the net but i didnt find a site with prices for new and used...
So every recomentation or suggestion is welcomed...
Thanks in advance, and happy rides
PS: Sorry for my "tarzan" English

Welcome to the group Idomeneas!
Don't apologize for your English, it's no worse than mine! Being from the USA I don't speak it very well either. Perhaps someone in the European market can help you better than I can, but with the US dollar dropping like a rock you may be able to buy one over here and have it shipped back cheaper than buying one over there.

tarzan english
thats hilarious, glad that you share our love of these absoulutly fabulous machines, there isnt anything that really compares to them,a truly unique blend of what makes a motorcycle ,
not sure what kind of import duties that you would have to deal with, but the idea of buying here (usa) and shipping it back home, might have some merit.i know that once you become a member of this faternity you`ll get all the assistance you`ll need to do anything you would care to do concerning these bikes, members of this forum are a fantastic group of people.
good luck

Get what you can. Then make it your own . And having a Thruxton in Greece would certainly be a plus (+) for the libido !

Geia sou Idomeneas. To ayyliká sou eínai polí kalítero apó to elliniká mas! (as you can probably tell from my lousy spelling!)
Idomeneas, leader of the Cretans and comrade of Odysseus at Troy. What a great name!
As for your question, I bought my Bonneville second-hand on E-bay in Britain, and rode it back to Portugal. In terms of cost, it would have been slightly more expensive to buy a new one here, but not much more. Firstly there was the cost of bringing it back, but I was happy to accept that cost, because it meant that I'd get to ride right across Spain and Portugal. I don't know how much it would cost to get the bike delivered from the UK to Greece, but it won't be cheap. Then I had to pay a vehicle import duty, and finally there was a large cost in changing the registration from British to Portuguese. All of this is very expensive in Portugal, and you should check how much these things cost in Greece, so that you can calculate the full price more accurately. There may also be other bureaucratic things you have to pay for in your country, so find out first.
But the biggest drawback was the time I spent in various offices, filling out paperwork, getting documents, paying things, etc. I even had to go to the National Civil Engineering Laborarory and spend a morning getting the exhaust tested to make sure it satisfied Portuguese standards, even though the model is homologated in Portugal. The whole process took three months, and I know that Greece is just as bureacrcatic as Portugal so you might have to go through the same thing. From my own experience, if I had to buy another Bonneville, I would certainly try to find one in Portugal rather than import one. Financially, it was a lot of time and effort for very little gain.
I don't know where you live in Greece, but if you live in Athens you could always drop into the Triumph dealer just behind the Temple of Zeus. I think the street is Arditou, just down the hill from the old Olympic Stadium. You might be able to negotiate a cheaper price for a new bike, because the Thruxton is harder for dealers in Europe to sell than the Street Triple, for example. Alternatively, they may be able to put you into contact with one of their customers who wants to sell his.
Good luck, and make sure to tell us what you decide to do!
Ody

I d buy a year old one with all the good mods already done.(Pipes, intake etc). No offence meant to 08 model owners, but the new tank looks like a pregnant goldfish.

No all years are as good as one another

as with cars, i pretty much always go for used. even if it's only a year old you'll save some dough. . . which you'll then spend on accessories!
