Have you ever thought about...

Have you ever thought about loading up your Triumph with some of your belongings and leaving your current life? I have a fairly successful business, but in the back of my mind I think there's more; just more to life.

I'll be 50-years-old this year and I'm finding myself living the same life my dad did; go to work, mow the lawn, complain about the government, pay taxes...

I'm leaving on a motorcycle trip in three weeks, and I'm not sure I'll be coming back. I'm sure this sounds irresponsible, but how many of you have had the same thought?

Kem

Kem if its your dream and you can afford it go for it, but personally iam living my dream retired two years ago at the age of 57, and wakeing up every morning doing what we want to do and travelling when we feel like it, but as far as going away permantly from my bikes and my home no way.
but theres more to life then work ,and life is short so the sooner you can escape being in bondage for money the better..

I'm with you Ron. It's great to be able to get away, whenever & wherever the mood (& the funds) allow. But I can't be on the road for more than a few days (these days) before I start thinking about the home-comforts.
That's because I've done a lot of long distance trips, on both 2 & 4 wheels, for most of my life. & it doesn't hold the same appeal that it once did (especially 2 wheel touring).
I wouldn't mind circumnavigating Oz again (going round the block), but I'd take an SUV & tow my bikes. I know it sounds like heresy, but there's so much of Australia that's best disptached with cruise-control & aircon. & I could unload my bikes to ride the interesting bits.
I might do it one day, but it's fun to daydream & plan it out, even if I never do it. So I hope you enjoy planning your escape, & if it's really what you want, I hope you're able to make it happen.
Life's too short for regrets.

mid-life crisis
...lots of folks buy the red corvette, leave their wife and kids then crash and burn.

those trips should have been taken in your early 20s when it's unpopular and radical.
...if you didn't have the balls then, you don't have them now.

reality is police patrol their territory and drifters and vagrants are chased out...the only way it works is to keep moving...realistically, you're tourist motel bait and that only lasts until the money runs out...then you're 60 sleeping on the ground with health issues in kid's clothes and no one loves you.

take a month off and run away to satisfy the "nutsy" until cold reality hits you square in the puss and you come back to your senses.

maybe I'll punch out some forward sets... stay tuned...tho above 60 degrees I'm out testing product in the real world...gardening and grass chores, family cookouts, dogs need scratched...

when folks are complaining about snow is when I hunker down in the shop for public consumption.

only thing preventing that: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ £££££££££££££££££££. You may feel like you have freedom when you ride but the reality is you still depend on people refining crude oil to fuel your internal combustion engine...which in turn costs ever more money £5 a gallon...ouch. maybe ill hop onto my push bike or build a solar powered electric bike...

As much as people disagree, money IS happiness.

I think we have all had thoughts of escape at one time or another.
Some of the best advice I have received goes something like this. If you are unsatisfied with your situation, you can probably change that. If you are unhappy with other people, you probably can't change them. No matter where you go, you will be there, so if you are not happy with yourself, trips won't help. 50 is a bad age. Been there.
