Ace bars

I LOVE these but I'm a little concerned that they would make it hard to move the bike around. Looks like they'd bump right into the tank when trying to turn your bike around to back into something.

Is this the case?

Also, are these the best bet for that cafe' look without getting clip-ons?

Ace Bars

You should have no problem with the left and right lock on the bike when moving the bike about with the ace bars as long as they are fitted correctly.Or you could go for 'Jota' bars which are an ajustable version of the ace bars, same look.

+1. . . no problems with tank clearance for me and i they are right where clip-ons would be. . . maybe even a little more aggressive

ace

are these pretty easy to do yourself?

Is it really just swapping the bars? All cables are the right length n stuff?

I imagine that the grips are tricky to get off, anything else I should know?

Yeah, everything is a straight swap, cables 'n' all.

i just use windex to get the grips off. spray a bit under the medial part of the grip. . . work it around. . . repeat. you'll have it off in no time. believe it or not it's really easy to get the grips off that way. some folks have said they use wd40--i had windex handy (and a butter knife to wedge under the grip) and it worked like a charm.

keep in mind you'll need to have bars detached from the bracket in order to get the housing for the throttle & clutch on and off.

oh and

Just to reveal a little more ignorance, would I need the "threaded plugs" or "no plugs" for my bar end mirrors.

The dealer put mine on for me, so I'm not really sure what I'd need.

it depends on how the bar ends are setup. do you have stock bars with bar ends now? If so, you'll probably want the threaded end caps to be able to mount the mirrors the same way, but most people that run bar-end mirrors prefer the bars without the threaded plugs.
