A reminder where our bikes originated

Here's a beautiful sketch by artist Paul Jamiol. Pencil and perhaps charcoal. I had the pleasure to meet him at the opening of the AMA Museum in Ohio in 1990, and later purchased his calendar with one of his motorcycle sketches for each month of the year. I think the calendar was for year 1993. I found it in a drawer the other evening, and thought you might enjoy seeing a sketch vs a photo of one of our favorite bikes.

Here's a link to my Photobucket site, where I saved a scanned copy of the 1964 Bonneville sketch.

I believe Jamiol is still sketching motorcycles, but don't know if he's done any more Triumphs since this one.

To me, the lines of these original Bonnies were next to perfection.

"To me, the lines of the original Bonnie were next to perfection"...

I agree (although I wish the rest of the bike were also that way). A couple of appearance details that the old bikes had which the new ones do not are the perfectly level gas tank and the perfectly upright cyclinders. The new ones are close but the difference affects their appearance in a subtle way when compared to the old, IMHO. Also, the gorgeous shape of the old gas tank. None prettier. Of course, who really wants to put up with a 2.4 gallon fuel capacity or whatever it was that they held...

This guy sketches modern bikes, including Triumphs and sells them on eBay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Motorbike-A...Q3amesstQQtZkm

My wife bought me a print of the Hinckley Bonnie for my Birthday, now has pride of place on my Study wall.

I recently bought a painting of a couple of cafe-racers haring through the back streets of London. Roy Barrett is the artist and he has a ton of other motorcycling paintings for sale. Great stuff for the study walls!
