Unhappy Screeching Noise coming from the front end

Have a 2006 Bonneville with less than 1,800 miles on it.

The last two mornings, I have noticed a terrible screeching sound which sounds like it's coming out of the front end.

When I did a serach, something came up on speedo cables that can cause this.

Anyone out there have this happen to their bikes?

Took it to the shop and everything looked OK. This only happens for a short time and only once or twice during the past two days.

Thanks.

If the bike works ok just treat the screech like any other motor vehicle "strange noise" and turn the radio up until you can't hear the screech anymore.

Try lubeing speedo cable. When beginning to dry out, they make a noise when first starting out then clear up after a few mins. Don't neglect this or cable may snap (much latter) Havn't done it yet on my Bonnie so not sure what is involved. The ones I've done on previously on cages and bikes were pretty simple to do. The Bonnie should be no different (I hope). If that stops it end of problem.

When you lube your cable, re-route the cable so it doesn't go thru the upper brake line loop. This will take some bend out of the cable and stop the whirring noise. Bet it only does it below 40deg. F. Do a search on speedo cable and theres some threads with hints for lubing the cable.

Derby Boy.

You are spot on with the noise only happening when it's cold. It only happened the past two days when I was driving to work and it was around 31-33 degrees outside.

Didn't know I needed to lube the cable with only 1,800 miles on it, but it will be lubed in very short order.

Thanks.

Same here...below 30 degrees and I thought the bike was going to blow up. Took out cable, lubed, no more noise.
